Is it possible this is a Trail or TRD off road with the XP package?

    Hey guys,
I just bought a 2016 4 runner and have a question. I was really looking for the trail or the TRD offroad but this one came up local. They called it an SR5 with the XP package BUT it has the locking diff, crawl control, terrain control, etc... Those items, if i'm understanding correctly, aren't available on the SR5. Is it possible this is a Trail or TRD off road with the XP package?

    Thanks

    Welcome!

A dealer should be able to look up the VIN and tell you for sure, but if it has crawl control/terrain control/etc then it is not an SR5. I believe the blackout/XP/Pro package has been offered under various names on both the SR5 and TRD off roads over the years so I'm guessing you have a TRD off road w/predator XP package.

Yes could be my truck was an xp or predator model orp they dropped the xp moniker in 17 and made it a predator package and brought it back in 19 as a 2 wheeler not a 4wd either way all the goodies of PRO at a discount

If it's a 2016 with factory locking diff and the other off road features then you have a Trail (the precursor to the TRD Off Road, same / same).

It's worth noting that the "XP" models aren't a Toyota model variant. That's all 3rd party shit installed after the trucks are assembled and shipped to the regional distribution. No VIN query will give you info on "XP", since it's essentially the same as Joe Blow dealer bolting stuff onto an already assembled truck on their lot and upcharging for it. It's really not a model upgrade and IMO actually detracts from the value of the vehicle, but I don't generally care for third party shit getting added on to a brand new truck. Not directed at OP since he bought it used and you get what you get...

My understanding from researching new 4Runners is that the XP package was only available from dealers in the SE United States. Apparently the units came from Japan to Jacksonville FL and there they put the different grills and wheels on etal. They had a package with the "TOYOTA grill" and the TRD wheels or another option called Billit wheels . This was for 2020 though I am not sure about prior years. Apparently this place in Jacksonville modifies the cars for SE dealers and send them out to. A money maker I am sure but a few nice options.

What he said! Create an account on the Toyota Owners website if you don't have one and you can check the VIN on ANY Toyota to see what configuration it was imported with and what was installed at the port.

Same thing works with the Lexus Owners website! :)

You can also see any dealership service appointments with detailed notes!
