I'm guessing 13 MPG is not normal for a 2015 4Runner

Yeah, but has your driving habits or routine really changed that much, since the Gen 4? 5 mpg is a large change.

Has anyone mentioned a front end alignment? I've a 2019 TRD Premium with 122K on it, and I'm getting 19.1 mpg. Michelin Defenders, 45 psi. Lotsa country driving, tho.

Ok I did just now take it for a short Freeway run and I was getting around 19-21 MPG going 60-65 without traffic. So it may just be fine.

No, I still live in the same neighborhood and I still go to the same places, I still have the same job and everything. My Tacoma gets 17-18 MPG and only weighs 400 lbs less.
Yes, I think an alignment is a consideration. It has had one in the past. It does coast really well.

WOW sorry to hear your stuck with $5 dollar a gallon corn fuel.
We are in a dense area of central FL where people are like fire ants when you
kick the mound. Our corn fuel is 2.90/3.15. non corn 89 is around 4.50.

so I just did a 518 mile trip to NC with 2 adults (385 lbs) + child (75 lbs) fully loaded rear cargo (200 lbs?) running 285/70/17 Wildpeak AT3 SL, speeds were 65-75 and was able to average 19.8 - 20.7 mpgs. Tire pressure was 32 cold and 35 hot. So 13 is not normal. My city driving average is 17.7+

When I take it on the freeway I can get 20-21 MPG. I think I just live in a hilly area with lots of stop and go so I only get 13.5-15.5 MPG. I've done a fuel injector cleaning, my throttle body is clean, I use tier 1 gas, my 265/70r17 A/T tires that weigh 46lbs are inflated to 35-36 PSI. I have friends who have 5th gens that live in my neighborhood and they get about the same.
Here in California we have 10% ethanol gas and it is really expensive.

I just got 13 mpg avg on my last tank, after correcting for larger tire size. Idling for an hour with A/C at full blast probably contributed to it.

My Tacoma gets the same mileage crawling on the trail in 4low, going about as quickly as my normal commute in traffic.

Yeah, I think they just aren't fuel efficient but they are super durable and capable. I'm not a fan of the Gen 6 turbo charged 4 cylinder hybrid engines. Yes they get better gas milage and yes they are capable but they are not long lasting and durable. The truck weighs the same and asking a smaller engine to do the same job as a larger engine and last just as long isn't possible.

What is going on with Costco fuel to cause lower mpg?

Hard to say what the cause is with so many factors including location, driving habits, etc. but my Costco gas and non-Costco gas fuel economy has not changed across two different vehicles in my personal experience. (calc’d at pump)

I actually just got myself an old Corolla for this reason.

5th Gen on 34's with 450# of armor gets about 13-17 mpg depending on speed.
Picked up a 2008 Corolla when I moved out of the city. Now I get 28mpg during my 1 hour commute to and from work. My 4Runner will be preserved for off roading and camping trips... All the money I save on gas can now be spent on 35s and a regear!

I’ll still drive my 4Runner. But commuting it to death is not what I built it for.
