The CARB spout has a vent. If I were determined to pour fuel from a Wavian can into a lawn mower (or in my case a generator), using the spout, I would put the tip into the mower’s tank without resting the weight of the whole fuel can on the mower, and then draw back the outer tube against the spring by hand to open the valve in the spout. This would be rather awkward while supporting a 20L fuel can. It would be a little easier with a 10L can, but still unwieldy. Personally I only use the spout when filling vehicles. For “horizontal” applications like a generator I omit the spout altogether and use a funnel. In addition, because I’m paranoid about spilling gasoline on a hot motor while my face is directly above, I keep a couple of 5L Wavian cans. I refill them from the 20L cans. They are much easier to handle and to deliver fuel to the generator without spilling a drop. This may seem overkill to some but there have been times when I depended on the generator for days at a time, refueling multiple times per day.

Out of curiosity, how does it spill?

I keep thinking new posts mean the OP has found a solution, but the thread has turned into a gas can tutorial...
