Digital Key Capability (subscription required) $275. So they want you to pay and then pay more monthly for a feature that already there? On $70K truck?

Needing a subscription for your vehicle is stupid. I hope no one actually pays for that nonsense.

Seems like I've read the needle bearing is still present in the new Tacoma, so I imagine it is also still being used in the 6th gen 4R since a lot of things are common between the 2 models.

I am not certain if this is true for 6th Gen, but on Crown you need to have subscription for GPS to work. Yep, no offline maps for you. I think Toyota structures subscription to cover lease term, so first owner doesn't pay right away.

To me, this is a scam. Toyota should not get into subscription and data collection, there is no reason to chase BMW and others down the anti-consumer drain.

That’s ridiculous especially since free GPS apps like Waze are much better anyways. I never use the crappy GPS in my 4Runner.

I was so annoyed to find out I needed to download some stupid app and activate the “free for 10 years” subscription to unlock the remote start feature on my ‘23.

Luckily the 5th gen was so outdated, even with the later model year added features, that they didn’t (or couldn’t at that point) tie other features into the subscription nonsense.

I'm a supercharger away from having the 5th gen perfect. It would take a lot for me to "upgrade" to a 6th gen.

I don't think the 6th gen has an issue with power, so you need to include that in your equation.

No it doesn't but I didn't say the 6th gen lacked power either. I just said the 5th gen is a blower away from being perfect for me. If the 6th gen had more reasons for me to jump ship I would for a $65k+ suv (Trailhunter). There's not enough standard features for me to jump ship just yet. I rather jump to a 25' or 26' Tundra Platinum CrewMax I-force Max and gain a bed and massaging front seats.

Same needle bearing, but less of other standard features - power drivers seat, hood struts & insulation, and by some accounts - less room in the back seat, all for more money. Doesn't make sense to me. I guess Toyota thinks the new power train is so wonderful it will make people overlook any other deleted features.
