How many are going to trade for a 6th Gen?

Part of me is curious what you mean by this. But, part of me doesn't care.

I had a new 280 ZX and liked it, not sure about the new ones. Nissan has had some financial and production problems .... the next gen 86 is supposed to be a junior supra.

Wonder if that electronic parking brake will randomly refuse to release like the one in my Highlander...
I liked my past toyotas (2018 & older) but 100% regret getting a 2021 Highlander and certainly not looking at any newer model toyotas because they all have same crap tech and excessive electronics and poor engineering. It's like Toyota got too many fresh out of college engineers to bring "fresh ideas" but failed to blend in experienced people to point out bad practices.

 

What happened to the parking brake and what was the fix?
I agree that it seems like these designers have never owned or used the type of vehicle they are designing.

 

No fix. "Normal operation".
Brake is suppose to release when shift out of Park but sometimes it just doesn't. Screen gives an error message but I forget what exactly it says. So far shifting back to park and back to gear a few times gets it to go.
Also has a very strange feeling when it engine brakes while coasting. Surprisingly strong which makes me wonder if it is actually engaging the electric brake slightly sometimes on downhill stretches. It's a normal v6 model, no hybrid, no turbo.

That was the best part of the 3rd gen Taco and for that matter, the FJ for me, the hand pulled parking brake.

I love the pull brakes and the space it takes up is of no consequence to me since I don't have a man purse to put in the center console.

 

I wonder if you can pull a fuse to disable it?

 

Maybe but then there is no parking brake control at all. They might lock tight if fuse is pulled, like air brakes on a truck lockup when a line blows. Lol.

 

I bought my 24 pro in march last year. I think im good until the 7th or 8th gen

 

Can't wait for the I-3 from the GR Corolla to go into the 7th gen.

 

A friends Rav4 emergency brake froze, had to have it towed to the dealer.

 

The electronic parking brakes malfunction far more common than people realize. But no shortage of brand fanboys who will swear up and down that the mechanical brakes are terrible and that the electronic versions are the best thing since sliced bread. I see that trend on every brand forum I read, Ford, Toyota, Ram, whatever. Seems like there is always a subset of buyers whose kryptonite is the foot operated parking brake.

Don't get me wrong. The mechanical E brake on my 5th gen is definitely shitty. The one on my 4th gen sucked also. But, not in a way that electronics would fix.

Edit: I'll also add that the E brake on my '94 worked just fine. I'm not sure how Toyota managed to fuck up something that had previously been perfected. I also kinda miss the pull handle coming out of the dash. But, I guess some folks probably found it unsightly. That, and it probably wasn't used nearly as much one the manual transmission option went away.

Another side note: the E brake on my '15 Taco was fantastic! It saved my ass once when I made a very stupid mistake while launching a boat once.

I loved my 3rd gens, liked the 4th gens alot, had 4, really like the interior and ride of my 5th gen.

You sound a bit like a great friend of mine -- he's had two 2nd gen, a 3rd (still a daily driver), three 4th gens (one wrecked, two still going daily), and just got a 5th gen a few days ago.

 

I have had 8 4runners, 7 Toyota trucks , 1 Sequoia and 4 Rav4s, we currently have the 4runner, 2 Rav4s, a Lexus LX600 and a CLK350 convertible. I sold the Sequoia to a buddy and it is approaching 640k miles. At some point we will probably upgrade the Rav4, it's a 21 Hybrid Limited, great car.

 

I will wait until the dash imbedded TV phase is over before I consider a new vehicle.

I had a 3rd gen and really loved the look and smaller profile. Could have bought a newer 4th gen with less miles for the same money but I was dead set on the 3rd gen.

Great truck, sold it to my brother and he still daily drives it with no issues. I think the 3rd gen was a high mark, not a fan of the 4th gen, but the 5th gen is the all around best for a daily imo.

Also think certain trims of the 5th gen look awesome, others are ok.

 

My 2018 Runner, after 40K Miles is just like the day I bought it ....The only difference is that we love it more! If there was something about it I did not like and was looking for an improvement, but first, I need to find something wrong with what I have. I have a 2016 Taco, Access Cab....found out they dropped making those - Sorry Toyota...at 140,000+ Miles it still runs like the day I got it ...for less than the cost of a new one I can replace every moving part. Oh, one more thing - It's a 6 Speed Manual (Another reason to keep it) Perhaps Toyota is marketing to new-to-the-brand buyers?

$13k for one year newer , $69,874 for a 4Runner. It just seems crazy. I love my 5th gen, drove the new 6th gen, TRD Off Road, I can't justify spending that much.

 

I have yet to drive one, I'm thinking the "looks" aren't that bad, but the price.... Damn, I guess we'll stick to the 5th Gen., I still want to drive one though! BTW, do they still have the "needle bearing" in the front diff.?
