the base Grenadiers at 75k are just about the same price as a 6th gen TRD Pro and trailhunter with a few options so there is surprisingly an overlap.

My main concern is its lack of dealer network, if it could be supported by BMW techs I would be more inclined to give one a shot. But I really like the interior and the powertrain when I checked out one.

Oh thank goodness, the new generation of Toyota buyers cannot be trusted with a hand or foot operated parking brake.

I stopped to see one yesterday that just hit the lot, TRD ORP and in silver.
The inside and outside (I know this is subjective) felt and looked extremely cheap. Lots of plastic. Had this odd "could this be 3D printed" feel to me. 18" wheels and a spare that looked like a smaller donut? Electronic parking brake and steering rack.
Made me love my 18' TRD ORP even more and I hope to get many, many more years with it. And at $62K for this new model I would seriously consider spending a bit more and going with the Grenadier. It would mean learning a new engine but that vehicle is a solidly built vehicle.

I watched a video on YouTube this morning, they drove the new 4runner 56 miles ,once with the air dam, once without. 22.6 with and 23.4 without. Not bad. I still prefer my 5th gen, it looks like a truck, not a mini van cross over.

Only thing that would make me trade it in is the adaptive cruise control, lane assist and traffic jam assist (Sadly the traffic jam assist is a paid subscription)

I cannot justify though paying 10k more than my current truck and after seen the interior of a LC250 I really can’t justify it.

I think I would probably trade it in for the GX550…

I liked the looks of the LC, until I looked at it in the showroom, not a big fan. We were going to get a GX550, but the LX600 was a better fit, the dealer had a demo with 3200 miles with some really nice discounts.

    Huh.

Is it just me or is it a lot less well put together of a rear end than the 5th gen, design wise? example from the interwebs

I really don’t like the 4Runner lettering on the bottom of the hatch. It looks arbitrarily stuck on there. Also is the black piece that says Toyota the same piece that’s on the new Landcruiser?

not quite the same piece as the LC250.

The back of the 250 is very well designed, in my personal opinion. If they offered the LC250 in gas only powetrain, I would be very tempted.

Compared that to the 6th gen 4R, the 4R looks more chaotic. Maybe that's what they are going for, I have no idea. But it's so odd to see the bumper not at the same level as the corner pieces AND different colors.

Maybe I am biased but I think the 5th Gen back and looks more aggressive.

Personally the new back end looks like the rear hatch to a minivan (but sport trim minivan)

Wow, I would have thought Toyota would have at least made an attempt to clean up the wires in the engine bay.

It acts as a clear representation of how much more complex these engines are. Sure the power figures are comparable, but getting that out of an engine that has 40% less displacement than the 5th Gen requires much more stress on the engine. I (and many others) would prefer an untaxed 4.0L rather than a boosted 2.4L with little man syndrome. Too each their own, but there is nothing about the 6th Gen that appeals to me.

    I concur.
Why do all the corners on this thing have to be so bulky, bizarre and hideous. The front is overkill as well.

I’m know I’m salty af, but 6th gen should have broke the mold and switched back to small badge on the truck (and certainly no big ‘4Runner’ across the gate). Right?

Actually, the turbo 4 has significantly more usable torque.

A 4 cylinder has more main bearings than a V6. Also, by making full torque at a much lower RPM, there will be less need to rev the engine. It's possible that the bottom end of the 4 cylinder will actually be less stressed than the old V6.

...^^^... I have been a super loyal Toyota customer and advocate for a long time and have seen and lived through their mistakes. However, to put such shiny fender flares on this vehicle that will possibly go off road is crazy wrong in my thoughts. Even a grocery cart from Walmart or Costco can show a nasty scratch on the shiny plastic material and it looks really cheap too. Not to mention making the wheel opening look too big, thus making the tires look smaller. All of these design/cosmetic mistakes have little to do with mileage, function and dependability. Wake up Toyota, they are getting too gaudy and too big.

Agreed. Don't really care for the black ones altogether, except maybe on a dark gray or black 4Runner.

My 4th gen had gray cladding and fender flares. But, it was gray, so I didn't mind it. Plus, it had a matte finish, and really hid any scratches and stone chips. If they had a glossy finish, they'd have probably looked like shit after a few years.

Probably never. I want to get something sporty in a few years, so buying another 4Runner doesn't make sense. The '19 will become the camping/wheeling/winter vehicle, and I'll probably get a Z or an 86 for fun.

Maybe if it's (the 6th gen) around long enough, I'll get one eventually and make the 5th gen a dedicated recreational toy.

That 86 with the Naturally Aspirated FA24D power plant that everyone complains about power and fuel economy? Every owner of one and the preceding FRS I talk to wishes they had more power and a longer top gear for fuel economy.

Well, the Z is my first choice regarding power. And, I'm not really worried about fuel economy with a toy. If I was that hung up about fuel economy, I would be on a different Forum right now.
