Voltage regulator has failed and my battery is not being fully charged.

I was thinking about getting a high output alternator, was looking at Power Bastards, Green Machine, and others, but then started reading the threads and paused.

there appears to be no threds from 2017 on about high power alternators.

The ones I did find said that you had to upgrade the fuse, otherwise you would blow the 140amp fuse when it delivered over 200amps. Has anyone done this upgrade recently? Do I need to take it to a stereo shop and have them upgrade the wiring and the fuse, before I take it to a mechanic?

I’m not sure if it’s worth the headache, but I do have a Warn Zeon winch and the idea of giving it better rpms is appealing.

    Thanks for any advice.

Well also not sure on what wire size the 4R has but might want to take this into consideration. Not only the fuse.

I’m no expert in the 4runners but with the Tacoma’s that have the towing package, they come upgraded with a high output alternator. I would assume maybe the 4runners are like this as well but I am not 100%. Maybe someone else can chime in.

If you’re going to upgrade keep in the mid the specs loft he alternator. Generally high output alternators are only high output when the engine is at a higher rpm, in fact it’s not uncommon for them to have less than stock output at idle.
