    Just saying hello!

I bought a 21 TRD ORP yesterday. This will be my first T4R but I've had an FJC and two Tacos previously.

I'm excited to get the lift and a couple of things done to bring it up to where I had my last Taco.

    Cheers!

This was my Taco before I got hit by a guy running a red light. I'll miss it but already really enjoying his the T4R drives. Feels like a small tank.

    Welcome

Nice looking taco. Sucks someone took it out running a red. You’ll grow to love the 4Runner.

Thanks. I already like the way it drives and, too be honest, I had one too many trips to Utah where the RTT was useless due too wind conditions. I'm looking forward to just sleeping in the back.

    Welcome to the forum.

I know you haven't had the 4R for long, but I'd be interested in your take on the driveability vs. the Taco. A lot of 4R owners ditched their Tacomas after experiencing the engine/transmission (mostly auto) issues with the 3rd gen Tacomas.

I probably need to drive it up into the mountains on I-70 to really answer that. In The Taco, it was constantly hunting for the right gear and it was pretty annoying but it was only really obvious to me when driving uphill at higher speeds. Then a few months ago I got the ECU flashed with an Orange Virus tune and it was like getting a new truck. More punch in the low RPM's, higher overall shift points and it didn't need to hunt for gears like it was before. It was very noticeable in the mountains.

I haven't noticed anything like that in the 40 miles or so I've put on the T4R but driving up I-70 will confirm that those issues are or aren't really there like the Taco had. I will circle back on this here once I know.

Welcome. I also went from a Tacoma to 21 4RUNNER ORP in silver. I absolutely love the T4R. My last Tacoma had the 3.5L and while it may eventually be as reliable as the 4.0L I never cared for the transmission and gear hunting. The only thing I’ve done with mine is replace the factory tires and add an RCI engine skid plate. Congrats on your T4R!
