What air filter do you use on your 5th gen? You mentioned it somewhere but I can't find it.

 

What's the benefit?

 

Oiled filter maintenance is a little more time consuming and has the potential to gum up the mass air flow sensor triggering a dash light if you oiled it too much.

I have oiled filters for a couple of my motorcycles. I generally keep 2. 1 prepared and ready to install while I clean and let dry overnight. After it dries I oil it and put it in a zip lock bag for the next time.

I'm curious also. I've been sticking to standard paper/gauze type. I've used aftermarket (K&N mostly) in the past, but now I worry that they won't filter as well.

 

What's the advantage of the oil filters in comparison to the dry ones. Does the oil trap more dirt? Just curious

 

Supposedly, but they are more trouble to maintain, and can cause MAF issues if oiled incorrectly. Plus, testing consistently shows they do not filter even as well as the oem filter. Their only advantage is you don't have to keep buying a new one every time you need a change.

For the engine filter, the standard Toyota OEM air filter.
I buy them by the case (of 10?) online
Or the Purolator One A36122 - engine air filter, in auto part stores.

I feel it doesn’t pay to buy oiled filters that are supposed to “breathe” better with bigger voids but then supposedly capture the dirt with sticky oil. Then you have to periodically clean and dry them. Yuk. Been there, done it.
