Hey everyone! A mechanic sent me this picture of a part that needs to be found online since they couldn't source it. He said it's "just a few bolts" to replace it and that it "stabilizes the transmission but isn't causing any issues as-is." The reason for replacing it is that it's causing a rattling sound. It doesn't quite look like a transmission mount to me, but I'm not sure. I can't find where I wrote down what it is (this was a little while ago), and the shop doesn't have anything on file. I'm hoping to find the part before taking it back in. It's a 2000 SR5.

No longer available from TOYOTA. Part number is 3318335050

You'll have to source it from ebay or a junkyard.

Might be worth unbolting it and seeing why it's rattling. They don't usually make noise even in old age. They are really just a passive thing that reduces certain frequencies of vibration. They are more to make the car feel calm and smooth for new buyers. Once you have 200k miles and a whole bunch of wear and tear, they probably don't do a whole lot.

Thank you so much for this info. I did some reading, and it's such an interesting part.

I also found this Reddit thread on fixing the existing part, so we might try that if we take it off and the noise/vibration is worse. I haven't seen it on eBay, and it sounds like some vehicles are okay with it removed.

Mine is "broken" in the sense that it just wobbles around loose in the mount, whatever it's supposed to be attached to let go of it, so it's not actively dampening anything! But my 4runner doesn't exhibit any excessive vibration that I can notice, even when doing 80 on the highway. I am planning on installing a mild lift (no more the 2 inches), so it'll get new shocks as well along with the ECGS bushing for the front diff, so doubt I'll feel much vibration after all that.

Mine's been broken for at least as long as I discovered it was, ~6 years ago, so I think you're probably good without it, but your mileage may vary, depending on what else is imparting vibration into your drivetrain.

We removed it and haven't noticed any additional vibration, so it no longer seems to be needed! I did keep the part just in case we want to do the Reddit repair.
