Hello everyone, I was recently told by a reputable 4x4 shop that and mods done to this particular year of 4runner will end in a lot of $+disaters involving hidden costs. He said I'd be much better off lifting and modding a second or fourth generation. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Phil

Did he give any detail at all as to why it would be so costly? I've got more mods then I can even remember in my 00' 3rd gen and I'm past a quarter million miles. Knock on wood, no serious problems as of yet.

Thank you for your reply. He said
it was where the steering rack was located and something about the ball joints getting destroyed. Seemed strange to me...

Hmm, ball joints are a common issue yes but nothing to stop you from modding. Replace them and keep an eye on them. Can't say my steering rack has ever caused me any problems except when It needed to be replaced. You can only travel so far in a stock one. Modded or not.

3" lift but mostly all stock not a scratch on it it is pristine condition amazing for being 19 years old.
LOWER BALL JOINTS FROM TOYOTA ARE STOUT AND THEY ONLY TAKE 15 MIN PER SIDE TO REPLACE.JUST DON'T LIFT IT MORE THAN 3 INCHES

    Teamroper and Tucson4runner like this.
