Greetings all, we are packing up and heading to Morongo Valley, just outside JTNP for a few days. One day we are going to the park to do some hiking and the second day, we plan on hitting some trails. I had been looking on TrailsOffroad.com and found a couple interesting options. Not trying anything harder than moderate as our 4R is our only vehicle, besides my bike, so I don't want to get in too big of a pickle. Plus, we will be going alone, so there's that.

Any suggestions would be great, even if it is ones to avoid!

    Happy New Year!

I just got my runner, so I can't speak to the condition of the trails (the rangers can though), there are few inside the park. The next time I go, which will be next October, I plan to drive the geology trail and learn more about the region.

JTNP has no cell service. If possible, avoid going alone on trails.....

I will do some easy ones but I am pretty confident in my skills. This by no means is my first time off-road.

Berdoo Canyon Trail is terrific and a good intermediate trail. I’d recommend it. You can run it downhill south out of the park, or use it to enter the park through the back door running north.

Do you want to do long dayhikes? Got young kids?
    Of mostly driving?

We did a couple of shorter hikes today and some rock climbing.

    Tomorrow is off-road trails.

    No kids, two dogs.

You might want to check out Old Dale Road. I haven’t driven it but others on the forum have. Maybe check with the rangers about the conditions. If you’re heading out via the southern exit (Cottonwood Springs Rd) try a day hike out to Lost Palms Oasis. It’s out and back so you can go as far as you have time for.

You can't take your dogs inside the park (they can but have to be kept inside vehicle)

Yes, thanks. We do quite a bit of research for NP trips so we are familiar with park pet regulations. We didn’t take them yesterday into the park for this reason. Today when we enter, we will take them bc we are only doing off-road trails, not hiking.
