How many of you are having head gasket failures on 2005 and 2006 4.0 engines?

I have been a very loyal Toyota owner since 1972, that's correct, 1972 and have owned 25 plus Toyotas as well as my family all owning Toyotas. My head gaskets failed at 139,000 miles. I called Toyota, got a case number, she looked up my service history and said that Toyota could probably help me. After furnishing Toyota with most of my previously owned Toyotas serial Numbers, they denied any help. Where is Toyota going??

I suggest that if you or any one you know with either a 4Runner or Tacoma that has had a head gasket failure, spread the word and contact Toyota. They know they have a problem because they redesigned the head gasket starting with 2006 models.

This is beginning to look like the head Gasket problem from the 90's with the 3.0 engine.

My 2005 tacoma blew a head gasket. Expensive fix by Toyota but done right. I had many happy miles with the tacoma so i wasnt turned off by it. In fact, I like the 4.0L so much it was the reason i got a 5th gen 4runner instead of waiting for a redesign. I dont care for the new 3.5L.

03-04 are the issue years, 05 was the year they redesigned the gasket so it should (theoretically) be much less rampant
