I need to rekey my glove box. The dealer did the driver door and reprogrammed the fob but apparently couldn't figure out how to replace the lock cylinder for the glovebox.

How do you remove the old cylinder and install the new one?

    It's a 2023 if that matters.

Was it because they couldn't or just forgot to do it? I'd ask them that before I spent my $$$.

They either forgot or didn't realize the 4Runner has a locking glovebox. Insurance paid out for the fob reprogramming, new fob, and driver door rekey already, I don't think they'd be willing to reopen the claim, plus I'd have to take work off to take it in. I'd much rather just do it myself.

Have you asked a locksmith? They're pretty knowledgeable about all kinds of locks. This must have come up before for them.

That's surprising. Good luck with the search. I don't think about the glove box, I guess - I haven't locked mine once since I bought the 4R new in 2019.

I don't lock it very often but it's nice to be able to when I want to - leaving it with a valet or whatever.

I took a look at mine and couldn't figure out how to access the lock cylinder. If that cylinder was out, any competent locksmith could rekey it.

But after a quick online search, I found this thread:

That's my issue, I have a new lock cylinder, keyed for my new key, but I can't get the old one out.

I am not sure if it has changed but back in my Infiniti/Nissan tech days, We had a master re key kit to match up the tumbler slide assemblies to the key if the entire lock set wasn't replaced. Probably has changed over the last 20 years to make a reduction in part #s available and to increase cost.

You have to remove the glove box and there's 2 screws on the back that hold the lock trim on, remove the trim and the cylinder will come out, the hard part is removing the glove box to get to those 2 screws.

That's from the link posted in post #8 that you quoted above but you must of missed the link, it the last post in that linked topic, there's another link in that topic, post #2 that takes you to a topic that give a step by step on how to remove the glovebox.
