My ORP is still in production but I want to be prepared before the dealer gets it so i can advise them not to drill holes in the bumper if it can be avoided.

Any popular solutions out there for people who don't want a traditional drilled-in license plate holder?

Our state requires a front plate. However, for an extra fee (don't remember amount) you can get a sticker for the windshield. I would check with your local DMV.

Lol I can think of a pretty long list of states that I would gladly accept having to have a front LP in Texas to avoid.

I actually contacted a vinyl sign company to see if they would make a exact copy of my front license plate.

Then I could apply it directly to the bumper.

They said they couldn't for legal reasons.

I thought it would be a cleaner look.

who cares if you drill into it? Or is it metal? Our 4runner is on order so I'm new to the game.

I have a friend who hasn't run a front plate on his Tacoma and then his 4Runner for 11 years, even though his state requires it. Hasn't run into any issues.

Great guy, trust me, know him well.

Tell the dealer you will not accept the truck with drill holes/plate holder. It is not their obligation to enforce license plate laws. Then bring it home and do something custom per this thread.

Yeah I am in MI and we don’t require it. I have several friends in OH which requires front plate but did not install one.

I would tell dealer you’re looking into options and not to drill holes or you walk. I would see if you get a warning for installing.

Personally it seems stupid to me have a front plate. Glad I don’t have to deal with it.

My dealer intially was going to transfer a 4R from OH to Mi. I asked if had front plate they said maybe. I told them forget it and I ordered one.

There’s a lot of posts on 4R forums about deleting your front plate, how to plug the holes, and the low probability of getting ticketed.

But ticketing does happen. I was considering deleting mine and was searching around for others’ experiences and found that front plate enforcement seems to be a local issue. In the Bay Area, especially in San Francisco, there have been numerous fix it tickets issued to sporty cars that don’t even have a good spot for a plate. There’s a lot of posts on Tesla forums on how to rig up license plate holders because they repeatedly get tickets, usually when parked on the street.

The fix it ticket fine is pretty small but getting it fixed and signed off can be a PIA.

So I’m going to leave my plate in place. It’s a good bug destroying device.

same! living in the SF area, I rather not test my luck and get a fix it ticket.
