So need some help, my 2020 4runner has a flapping noise. The flapping noise increases the more I accelerate. It’s been there since I took delivery and it’s gradually gotten louder and louder. I’m at a loss trying to figure it out.

the dealer will be taking it in a week or two to find the noise along with repairing the damage they did last time they had it. Just wanted to get a jump on it.

    thanks in advance.

I had a flapping noise which changes with speed due to a bad tire.

that thought crossed my mind to be honest. I have a full size spare. I may start swapping it around to see if the noise goes away.

Had a similar noise on mine and found the rubber splash guards in the front fender wells to be the culprit. I got some rubber washers from Lowe’s and put them behind the attachment points. All is tight and rattle free now.

Inside the wheel wells after a trip some of the covers that prevent crud from getting into the engine became unpinned, and would flap and ping on the frame when driving and was incredibly annoying. Just do a good inspection, id suggest spraying the undercarriage with a hose to see if you can mimic the noise and track it down.

I’m at work currently but the area is any plastic fastener that connects the rubber splash guards to the frame and to the body in each front fender well.... Front and back of the upper control arms. Grab some rubber washers from the specialty hardware drawer at Lowe’s, remove plastic fasteners, place washer behind to tighten spacing, push plastic fastener back in hole to hold splash guard.

??? Measure the width of the plastic fastener and the hole the fastener goes in for best results. It’s not an exact science, it just works.

You can’t miss them. They look like rubber material that’s snapped into place on the engine side behind the wheels. I had a weird sound happening on mine too when it was new and it bugged me to no end. Once I finally figured out what it was (and that it was no big deal) I’m fine with it, as it doesn’t happen very often. Think it depends on wind direction/speed.

it was the splash guards. Currently have them off and the sound went away. Thanks man, I never would of thought of that.
