    Hi everyone!

I'm obsessively counting down the days until my 2020 Super White 4Runner SR5 Premium arrives this September. I've never owned a 4x4 before, but the wife and I are adventurers at heart. Case in point, last year we wrapped up a 2-year trip across 20+ countries in Europe with our little ones. We were gearing up to leave again for Europe again this past June, with plane tickets and stays booked out for months, but then came COVID. Not ones to be held down, we decided to shift gears and dive head first into overlanding the American west.

We both really wanted a TRD 4Runner, but we need room for our growing brood when we aren't on the trail, so the 3rd row in the SR5 is key. We plan to make our new baby into a "knockoff" TRD with all the mods we can in the next few months.

Sooooo, what should I upgrade first? I'm leaning towards suspension & a lift but am a total newbie. Thanks in advance! Stoked to be here!

This isn't ours, but this is the look I'm going for after a few months:

Congrats! Check out some of the 5th gen build threads for inspiration as well.

Which countries were your favorite from that 2-year trip?

    Nice, thanks Bob!

Norway was the most majestic, Italy was the most historically awe-inspiring, but Germany was my favorite all around. Bavaria is my favorite place in the world and I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could. Cheers!

RVA stands for Richmond, VA. (We've only lived here for a year and a half, but that's the cool-kid lingo here, I guess). The plans are still coming together, but I'll definitely share and ask for some pointers and places to visit. Thanks for reaching out!

BTW How do you like the Bilsteins? Which series? I think want to get the 5100s and level the Runner out with the 2.5 front and 1" back lifts, but still not sure.

Welcome! I'm a few months in to owning a 3row SR5 as well and I love it! My wife and I were toying with the idea of eventually doing the panamerican highway, so if you beat me to it let us know how it went! ha

Thanks thrilla! That's awesome you love the SR5. We're worried the 3rd row is a little tight but we have kids under 5 now so it should work.

PanAmerican is my ultimate goal for this hemisphere. I eventually want to ship the beast over to Europe and overland there. Have you seen the Expedition Overland series on the PanAmerican? They roll all Yotas (Runners, Tacomas, and a Land Cruiser) on that trip and damn its so fun to watch. These machines are unreal.

    Hey Rob!

New to the forum as well, and just picked up a 2020 SR5. Looking to do similar to what you are doing as far as a "knockoff TRD Pro" with mine.

Coincidentally, I live in Richmond as well.. 2 Weeks in after trading my Jeep GC and I am not looking back.

I already had it tinted, yellow fogs and 6500k Xenon Depot HID Kit on the way!

EDIT: I'm stuck on whether I want to swap out to the TRD Pro Grille/Garnish or leave it stock

Nice! Thanks for the info fellow Richmonder... Richmondite? RVAer? Anyways, your truck looks great so far! Where did you get the tint done and did they do a good job? I'd love to do that early, too. Anything to get past the "stock" feel.

Once I get the truck I want to see about any meetups around RVA! It would be great to learn from people in person in addition to this forum. Thanks for the welcome!

My wife made the decision on this one, she's dead set on the TRD Pro grille. That's happening early as well, haha! I say go for it. It gives it such a better look, IMO.

Haha been here about.. 6 or 7 years now near Scotts Addition-ish. I had my tint done, and every vehicle in the past few years done at United Solar in Midlothian. Absolute fantastic work, and awesome service. I went with the Pinnacle (Ceramic) - it was quite expensive at $400 but I have absolutely no regrets. You can tell a huge difference with it than their base line films.

Im definitely in for that, sometimes I definitely need an extra hand with mods and experience (That I dont have much of).

EDIT: Even though it is pricier, Ive been told to go with OEM Grille/Garnish for the 2020 since it has the extra safety sensor and you will not have to cut or dremel to fit.

Nice! Yea I saw United Solar on Google and gravitated toward them. I'll 100% choose them now, and I live in Midlo so that's right up the road.

Good call on the OEM Grille. I'll have to look into the logistics once I get a few other things done. Thanks for the info!

Nice! We’re getting our Runner from McGeorge. We visited all the dealers within 30 min of downtown and found them to be the best.

Only 10 days now till it lands in the port at NYC and then it gets shipped down here and I can finally call it mine! Tom over there worked a backdoor deal for us. He’s getting a Christmas card from now on if this all works out.

    Thanks man!

Yep, no end in sight either on the wheel backorder. I have 3 or 4 notifications set up from different vendors for when they get back in stock. Just waiting, again, haha. I may go 3rd party if I can find one that looks almost as good. Maybe...

I had that issue, but found a Toyota Dealer on eBay... ended up paying like $829?

McGeorge only charged $85 for mounting them
