So I went in for my first service, due at 5k miles.I had about 7700 miles so I let them do the 10k service including oil change.I was kind of dreading a 3 hr wait at the dealership,Kinderhook Toyota,in NYS.I was very pleased when it only took a bit less than an hour and a half.I was able to watch them do the service,so I know for sure they did everything they're supposed to do.I have read so many horror stories over the years about dealership service nightmares, but this dealership was on the money.

I won't let them touch my 4runner, unless they absolutely have to. It only takes one bad experience.

It will only get worse especially if you add mods. My dealer had my truck for an hour and almost destroyed my truck.

I have 2 years free maintenance.I picked this dealer based on reviews I got from people in the area about their service department.I was able to watch as they serviced it.
What did you bring it to them for?How did they "almost destroy"it?What kind of mods?

I brought it in for my 20k service and they did not screw in my oil drain plug was not in all the way and about to fall out, my oil skid was only held in by one bolt and on sideways, my front skid only had one bolt holding it in. My after market LCA skids had missing parts or parts on in the wrong place, then the dealer blamed it on my lift and steel bumper????? And it so happens everytime i bring it in they find something to blame my mods on.

Nope, i was getting work done at my 4x4 shop and i told them about my skids making noise and told me about all the issues and fixed it for free. Only reason i waited was my dealership was going to send it there to get it all fixed anyway so it just saves the trouble when i had an appointment at the lift shop. And unfortunately that was the other dealer. The first one poured an ENTIRE jug of oil in my engine bay and skid plates and left gloves in my skids and when i got home i thought i was leaking oil.

Good grief. With service like that, hopefully that business is on “the skids”. I’d be livid.

    Ah, thanks.

I think I'll skip that one and wait for 10,000 then.

Yeah,I wouldnt have even thought about it if I had to pay for it.As it turned out,by the time I could get in,I had about 7500 mls on it so I went for the 10k a little early.I'm not crazy about the idea of waiting 10k for the oil change, especially the first one after break in,so it did give me a better feeling about it doing it early.

Makes sense. My 5,000 mile check up is free as well. I just don't want to waste my time at a dealership for a fluid check and tire rotation. I don't mind waiting until 10,000 miles for that stuff. I also don't mind the 10,000 mile oil change, personally. If it's good enough for Toyota engineers, it's good enough for me.
