I just pricked up my first 4Runner, Trail Premium. Traded in an Xterra. The paint on my X was delaminating. Nearly $4,000 to get fixed. Plus needed new tires and struts. It was hitting 100,000 mark so I figured it was time to trade up. The X served me well. So far I love my 4Runner. We took a short trip in it yesterday and did some hiking. Much roomier than the x. Lots of options. My wife is in love with the ride.
I am not a heavy off roader. I like to get back into places for camping and exploring. I need the off road capabilities to do that. I have a camper that is rated off road and we find our selves back in the boonies for peace and quiet, plus adventure.
I do not know much about the 4Runner other than how well it is rated and that it is one of the last of a dying breed of real off road vehicles.
    I live in Northern Illinois.

Welcome aboard. We traded a '15 Wrangler JKU on our '16 4R Trail and could not be happier.
Like you, I'm not into excitement, due to my 84 years, but we still love to do the trails and off-roads here in B.C. Canada and the Yukon. Already planning for next summer! - Ted.
