Finding it virtually impossible to find a ‘21 ORP in black in my area

As I said when I first joined the forum, this is my first experience buying a brand new vehicle. I had no idea it was like this lol. Granted this is much more of a sought after vehicle than some others I suppose. Still crazy to me. I am in the nyc area too, which doesn’t help I guess with regional inventory (yeah yeah I know....who the hell wants to live here).

Sales reps at the dealers are telling me that orders directly from the manufacturer could take 3-6 months these days and are not even guaranteed with this covid bullshit.

Crazy stuff and frankly kinda frustrating.

I’m close to you in Northern NJ. My local dealer was able to get a venture exactly to my specs. I’m picking it up on Monday. Start checking all the inventory in Pennsylvania on the Toyota websites for all the local dealers in PA. One of the dealers out there will have what you want. I found that most dealers have the SR5 and Limited models around this area. Everything else was hit or miss.

Were you able to negotiate anything price-wise? It doesn’t seem like they care to so much with the 4Runner.

Not much. What I did was negotiate a few thousand more for my trade in. I got $500 off MSRP, plus the $1000 cash back, there also appears to be a $750 wild savings rebate on the sticker and negotiated $2000 more for my trade-in which was a battle but they did it. They don't budge much on the 4 Runner. I even tried the Costco Auto program. Not one dealer would participate on the 4 Runner. I even called the Costco Auto program directly. They looked into it and got back to me after 10 mins saying sorry, no dealer in your area is participating in Costco pricing for the model I wanted. The closest dealer that participated was in Yonkers and they didnt even havce what I wanted in stock. Its all about supply and demand. I did buy my previous Rav 4 from the dealer that located my Venture so maybe thats why they went out of their way to get what I wanted. All they had was SR5's and Limited in stock.

Interesting, thanks. I am actually a city firefighter and have access to this “national benefits program” that helps military, first responders, etc with mortgages, vehicle purchasing and the such. I contacted them and they have me a couple vouchers for dealers they work with.

I went to one today. The idea is that they try and get you close to invoice as possible. Long story short...the guy said he MIGHT be able to find one from a sister location. After like a 2% profit they’re entitled to from the invoice, the delivery fee (like $1100), and NY sales tax which is fuckin 8.75%.....he said he could get me out the door around 45K.

The sticker price on the ‘21 off-road premium for your every day joe walking in the door without the fees and tax is around 45K.

Does that seem like the best I am gonna do in this climate for that model?

That’s not bad for out the door price. Sheesh I thought our sales tax was bad in Jersey. Btw the dealer I’m dealing with has exactly what you want in black on their website inventory. It’s a 2021 TRD OR in black with the moonroof option. Link below.

I'm in upstate NY. I got my 2020 black ORP but i had to wait over a month. The closest one I found was in Pittsburgh at first. Syracuse had a blue one, watertown had one arriving a month later but it was already spoken for. I got lucky... I reached out to Rochester and they had the last one in the state and it wasn't on any website. Call all the dealers you're willing to drive to to get one and ask.

For what it's worth, MGM is a really good color on the 4Runner. Black also looks good IMO, but any black car has issues re showing dirt, spotting/paint damage if it gets wet in bright sun, and making the interior hotter in the summer. Seriously, every car has certain colors that work better on it than others. Grey works very well on this particular vehicle. And that's not just my opinion.

Not trying to dissuade you from black if you want black, just wanna make sure you've considered grey or other colors.

Not to interrupt but when looking for ours we wanted MGM or I really wanted a NBM (or Nautical Blue for the '19's).?
Dealership had a MBM (midnight black metallic).
Because this wasn't my first new vehicle purchase (2nd actually) I know some things to listen for etc. when they try & "sell" you on a vehicle.
The reason for my post is to tell you that Toyota is notorious for thin paint. We Xpel wrapped ours & in 9k mile we have had 1 rock break the wrap but it has a 10 yr warranty. It is also self healing & due to my schedule and washing by hand I will look tomorrow when she gets cleaned for fall.

No problem. Message me if you want my opinion on the tires. I don't want to hijack this thread.

Thanks for all replies, fellas. I am giving the go ahead with a local dealer to try and find what I am looking for. For hopefully around 45,500 out the door after all taxes and fees. I don’t see myself doing better than that. They don’t seem to care about negotiating down very much for these badboys...
