    I'm just saying that shocks can't do what a sway bar does. Otherwise, they wouldn't exist. The ability to flex a decent amount before fighting the sway bars is pretty brilliant in my eyes.

    If I ever get to a point where I find it to be a limitation, I'll probably eliminate eliminate sway bars altogether and set the 4runner up as a dedicated off-roading rig.

    Oh yea no worries man, I do think KDSS is sweet, just to be fair. And the body roll is less with KDSS, even with a solid suspension. I'm not saying suspension > KDSS either.

    But we lift tires pretty much far enough where the travel doesn't always matter, but I'll never say less travel is better than more travel, cause that's an outright, scientifically proven fallacy.

    True. If someone was going for a long travel setup, I would steer them away from KDSS as ANY sway bar will limit travel eventually. If I ever build a dedicated trail toy, sway bars will probably be deleted.

    Runner 82 has a point though. Once you start to upgrade suspension KDSS matters much less and for off road performance. These trucks all outperform our own capabilities as stupid meat sacks.

    Just get the quick disconnects. Id consider it but I doubt I will ever need THAT much suspension.

    I agree with this. I will say again that I think it's the best option for weekend warriors at or near stock ride height. For major builds, especially long travel, you're probably better off deleting or doing disconnects. But, at this point, the vehicle is probably no longer a daily driver.

    But just so we can do this in order to not destroy a streak. My PRO suspension is way better. ORP can suck it! :infantry:

    Haha I KNEW a PRO comment was coming.

    TuRD pro has its place. I even considered one. Most runners never see more than a gravel road. Let's all just be happy those on the forums actually use its capabilites.

    At the end if the day even a stock SR5 is a damnn capabile machine, and those that own one are fortunate.

    Coming from exclusively BMWs since 2003 im very happy with my decision. Im not joking when I say its nice to know when I start the vehicle there's almost zero chance a code gets thrown or a part you can't pronounce broke. My biggest concern is "Bilstein or Ironman 4x4 lift?" Instead of "what's broke today??" . I towed my 4wheelers out Sunday to a trailhead and couldn't be happier. Entune 3.0 has its nuances but im totally happy for now just stock... for now. Lift, tires, lighting in that order and we'll see from there.

    Had both of those too. Billies are great for the cost but the Ironmans are really freaking nice. (16 = Billies, 20 = Ironmans)

    No disrespect taken. I'm just saying, it doesn't have to be KDSS vs a quality aftermarket suspension. You can have both, which gives you the best of both worlds. They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

    Definitely, 35s! Definitely regearing though. I doubt anyone would find 35s on stock gearing acceptable, or that the transmission would last very long. There’s a recent YouTube video where a stock Tacoma and an overland Tacoma with full armour and 35s, drag race. The Tacoma with the 35s has 5.29 Nitro gears. The stock Tacoma just barely beats him. All that was missing was a bicycle in the race to give it all context and you certainly wouldn’t need a timer to the 1/100th of a second.

    Hey glwood, I agree with you, but I think he’s talking about the allocation of scarce resources. i.e., which is the best value for the two costs. It’s a little bit like comparing ATRAC and a winch, though. Apples and oranges.

    Perhaps what some commenters are saying is that KDSS does not exhibit any redeemable value when parked outside at the mall.
    It is, however brilliant at keeping the wheels smoothly planted with traction at low speed in muddy terrain that has rapid changes in camber.
    Also at speed on twisty pavement the KDSS corners level with almost no sway.
    My Wrangler had the sway bars removed in 1994 the week after I bought it, and while it goes anywhere with 2 ARB lockers, I won’t loan it out cause it can get hairy fast on turns over 50mph.

    The base TRD OR offers KDSS. What I purchased. Didn't care about a sunroof or premium stuff like fabric or power passenger seat. Otherwise had all the off road and head unit goodies for less.

    That's the best value for the stuff you can't easily add, or can't add at all (Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain select, etc)

    I thought that some TRD ORP runners had KDSS, and some didn't. Not an issue for me, since I really wanted KDSS along with the other ORP stuff.
    Only thing I didn't like about the package was the useless tires.

    My 2015 Trail has KDSS, but when it was advertised at Autotrader, there is no KDSS or whatsoever stating on the vehicles options list on the website, even on the dealership website. The dealership didn't post the trucks original sticker window either which they handed to me after the sale with the keys. I didn't look for new because I have a pretty low budget for the 4Runner, but I know what I want it to have. The dealership did not advertised the 4Runner Trail with KDSS option. BTW, mine is not Premium because of my budget. At the time I was looking, around beginning of this year, there were other used 4Runner off-road/trail premium advertised with KDSS, but it was $2k to $3k over my budget.

    When I was searching on Autotrader, I just searched for 2014+ 4Runner, but I don't check the 4x4/awd in the options page since I'm familiar with the Trail/Off-Road look already.
    Same as everyone here, you know a trail or off-road when you see one, hood scoop, the 7 spoke wheels, the black tailgate trim, the silver chin and rear bumper pieces, the knobs on the roof and the manual transfercase. Some things can be modified outside but most owners will leave the hood scoop on and the black tailgate trim piece. I also looked for a California Car because 1) I live here, 2) State Emissions. I don't want to buy one where I can't drive it in California. I did learn that 5th gen 4runners are 50 state legal.

    In terms of searching for KDSS, I literally have to go under the truck and look for the sway bar links and the KDSS valve lines which is under the driver door on the vehicles frame.
    Sometimes, you can actually see the valve housing of the KDSS under the driver door if they take an angled picture.

    I looked for the KDSS because the Land Cruiser has it and the Lexus GX has it too. If those cars have it, why not me in my small budget.

    Attached is the sticker... KDSS listed on right under options. It is an optional upgrade across the line. I bought in SoCal and browsed dealers for this specific setup. Everyone had a variation of the options. LA had many non KDSS but luckily my local dealer had what I wanted on the lot.

    Correct. It was/is an option on the off-road and the off-road premium.
