Kdmax tune. People are always crying about the sluggishness of the 4runners. This adds low-end torque/power, smooths the shift,, and it can hold gears now! It doesn't always need to downshift. I'm loving it.

What would you like to know? I'll give you as much detail as I can. Also, I'm going to start a detailed build thread for my runner when I find some time. It will include the system installation and all the steps I took.

    Starter info:

    2020 TRD Pro w/JBL
Replaced all dash/door/and tailgate spearkers w/Audison Components

Installed a JL 8w3 in factory enclosure
Removed factory JBL amp and replaced it with Audison Prima Forza 8.9 bit
Used Idatalink Maestro AR module and harness to connect to Prima amp using factory inputs/outputs for JBL amp.

Installed Audison SR1500.2 mono amp for sub under driver seat

@Super Green Thanks for the pictures and itemized list, but you lost me with the Factory JBL Subwoofer enclosure. I don't have JBL Sound in my 22 TRD OR Premium and the Sub Enclosures are only shipped loaded with the JBL Sub, are apparently made of unobtanium, and require hazmat shipping.

    - Rough Country 3" full suspension lift w/coil overs. Changed the driving experience exponentially ESPECIALLY during panic stops
    - 285s (they don't rub)
    - Shepra Crestone full rack w/Extreme LED slim amber/white dual light bar

    Next:
    - Audio upgrade (not sure what yet but will include unit & all speakers)
    - darker tint
    - drop predator steps and add real sliders

I don't think it's that difficult to get. Others certainly have been able to acquire it.

    Have you tried:

Thanks, yesterday afternoon I started searching again and found several Toyota online parts distributors that actually have these in stock. My normal go-to's, McGearoge and Camelback, said that they were no longer available.

@Super Green Yes thanks for the info. I thought that was a JBL enclosure. Great job.
I tried Audison gear as well, It just didn’t work for me.
I also had 6x9 Prima components in the doors with the Bit Forza 8.9 driving them. Been running it a lil over a year and am taking it all out next week in favor of a JL VX1000/5 and Focal 6.5 Flax.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of your build.

It's this badge on each big side pillar behind the rear doors, but it says "Trail."

Thanks. What didn't you like about the Audson gear?
My only knock is that I can't 'create' the stereo design in the bit software suite. So the only configuration for 8 channels is a 3 way active front. So essentially my prima 6x9 are considered mid range components and the rear doors are the midrage 'woofers'...

my rear hatch's are considered my rear doors...

luckily though, I'm able to set the distance and time delays on all speakers... all the speakers except the dash just run solely in the mid range..... they sound super clean, but if I turn down the sub, there's hardly any low end..fortunately the jl 8 w3 doesn't fall short for picking up the low end slack...In the end, I'm thrilled w/the way it sounds.... I'll eventually raise the low pass filter on the sub from 80hz to ~150 ish to add some more range to the sub.

Since ask was for single mod, I think it will be suspension (being done tomorrow, unless snowfall closes shop). In retrospect, I wish this was the first thing I did.

Dig seeing other folks who upgraded their audio as it was an utter game changer for me. I came super close to doing Focal’s, but wanted to keep the 6x9 and their upper tier stuff was not offered in that size.

Audison make great stuff and while shockingly pleased with the Morels, soon will be changing to AudioFrog most likely. The sub location looks great and sometimes I do question the wisdom of going with a 12 inch at the cost of utility. That said, there really is no replacement for displacement.

Of all the things that are almost compulsory is using a DSP to workaround the factory stuff. While I started out just doing speakers/sub and outboard amplification, it sounded awful until I added an ARC Audio DSP.

Now that my shoulder is not killing me as badly, finally getting around to doing a lift and other things. It was my original plan to do that first, but as my original ‘21 4Runnee literally lasted one day until someone blew a red light and subsequently flippped and totaled it, started with audio.

Mounted a goose gear plate and a fridge in the back. I got in a lot of trouble for that purchase, but it turned out to be super useful in AZ. We've even used it for when our power went out for a full day (fit everything from our freezer), and also again when our fridge failed a month later. I run it off of solar+single odyssey battery and/or a bluetti with zero drama. Great for Costco runs, I toss in some pedialite popsicles to cool off after a trail and have cold water on hand after hikes in the summer. Takes 2 minutes to remove the fridge if needed, and a few more minutes to remove the slide if required.

With the plate and gear organizers, I have all of my cargo tied down in the back for adventures.

That and the anytime front camera, I use it all the time parking and on trails.

I also installed the anytime front/rear camera. It does come in handy when I go up hills. It let's me know where the ground is.

Do you have a write-up on this? My door is worn out and keeps falling out and new ones are $60+.

I don’t. But I can take some more pictures and measurements. The one on our 2017 was worn out when we got it in 2020 and our 2021 just started falling out a couple months ago. Figured fixing it was better than getting a new one that would also naturally do the same thing. Happy to answer any questions.

2 1/4” from edge to center of hole right along the spine that the measurement is on in the pic. 1 1/2” from spine to center of hole as indicated
