I have a Jeep background, and this is my first 4Runner. Waving, ducking, do you guys do anything?

Unfortunately I do sometimes, more of throwing up the shaka if they have a sick rig.

Sometimes. Despite the enormous local popularity of Tacomas, Tundras and Highlanders, 4Rs are quite rare in my area. There are only five among the 800-900 vehicles in my neighborhood (a Pro, two Limiteds, an SR5, and my ORP). There are more Tundras than that at the 40 houses on my street. It seems like every young family has a Highlander and every younger guy has a Tacoma or a Wrangler. (There are countless Highlander + Tacoma families).

    Nope!
But if I found one parked at a parking lot, I would sometimes park mine next to it if there was a spot.

2014 Neglected by the previous owners 2020 is an abused former rental... 2023 New I've been buying above my pay grade ☹️
When I first got my first 4Runner and it still had the temporary paper plates on it, it wasn't just waving, it was people stopping and talking. Asking me what year it was and where I got it and if it was my first one. Sometimes they would just say "I've got xxx,xxx miles on it and it still runs perfectly!"

I still get some of that after my 21 months of ownership. I will always compliment someone with a Barcelona red, galactic blue or magnetic gray metallic. Those look great, especially when they're clean.

I have traded nods and smiles with passing 4Runners in Colorado. It feels like a bit of a club, but maybe it’s just me because I’m so in love with my new truck.

No one stops and talks to me. Maybe Army Green is a less approachable color. Or maybe it’s because there are buh-zillion 4Runners in this town.

I don’t wave at anyone. Don’t want to get shot by an angry gun nut.

There's an identical '16 Pro in Quicksand that has the exact opposite commute daily where I live. The man that drives it has never so much as looked my direction when we cross paths.

I gave the two-finger-steering-wheel-salute first time i saw him, nothing in return which is fine. Kinda makes me chuckle though, almost feels like he's purposefully avoiding acknowledging my existence haha

Where I live down here in the country we wave at everyone, but then again we know them all. But when we’re in the city on biz or visiting, no.

In our FJ40 people wave at us all the time or give us a thumbs-up and we usually respond - if safely possible (ie not shifting gears, etc.).

So, kinda depends on where we are and the situation. Generally speaking, 4Runner people don’t wave at other 4Runner people, based on my experience.

Non classic 06. I'm too poor for any kind of a classic car.

Agree with you on that. Sold my 65 Impala & the Grand National a few years ago once my age started creeping up there and I got more wise with modding money or lack there of if you have a few cars.

The newer ones are no joke from what I have seen at cruise ins a few years back

Maybe Jeep owners wave at each other to acknowledge that their rigs are still running. Lol.

Joking aside, a lot of 4Runner owners around me are snobby. If I wave, I get the death glare.

Depends, if my neighbors are burning trash, no. If they have illegal tint, no. I usually figure if they can afford a 4R they are stuck up and think they got something.

    Ducking??

I think there was a thread by a gal some time back about leaving a duck or something like that on a 4Runner when you found one you liked.

    It didn't end well.

I do, about half of the time. If theirs is decked out, I wave most of the time. I've also been waved at by Jeeps and other 4×4's, as well. I notice that I get waved at more often when the roof rack is on.

I read the thread he was talking about - I think the girl wanted to start putting frogs on other people's 4runners like people put ducks on jeeps.

I threw in the wednesday dude frog because I used to work with a bunch of youngins - apparently its an interweb thing

Generally no, unless it's another OG Trail.

I waved at a few 4Rs when I first got mine and got ignored. I think the majority of these are driven by non-enthusiast types that just wanted something reliable.

I was driving my buddy's lifted green 80 in San Diego earlier this summer, another guy in a lifted green 80 caught up to me and gave me a big wave.
