Do you use different tire pressure than what's on the door jam?

Still sensitive for 2023 models. Door says 32 but after talking to the dealer I just learned they now recommend 35. Anything above 38 or below 28 triggers the sensors. I had mine at 32 and last night the temperature was just at freezing which dropped my tire pressure to 27 all around and triggered the warning!

The dealer recommends 35? Or, Toyota does? It seems weird to change the recommended tire pressure when nothing else has changed. I'd follow the manufacturer's recommendation over the dealer.

Agree Tire Pressure should be set to manufacturer's specs when "Cold" not after driving a crap load of miles or more, if you check your pressure before you drive it could be 32 Psi then you drive for a few miles and check it again you will see that it went up 2 or 3 more.

Chalk test is best & increase cold psi when loaded up or towing.

Math is quicker than a chalk test...and more accurate (well, at least if you can math it is). Almost everything else you said is wrong too...

Sensors on a 23 do not trigger above 38, I've had 42-44psi in mine for over a year (stock size LT).

Wouldn’t something like 15 PSI maximize contact patch?

How accurate is this site tiresize.com? It’s telling me to run 25 psi, that can’t be right.

Yeah, that's weird. Toyota recommends 32 for an SL 265/70/17.

That calculator is good for switching to tires of a different size or load range.

Huh. The dealer salesman tried to tell me 35 was the proper inflation as well and I just laughed. I showed him the TPMS readings because DPI hadn't adjusted the pressure at all - still sitting in the low 50s like they were when they rolled off the Tahara plant floor.

For standard all weather ‘street’ tires like the Bridgestones that were equipped on my T4R the stated pressure works just fine. After switching over to Mickey Thompson’s Baja Boss XLs I run 38-40 psi.

I run 40 PSI in my trucks for decades.
Not sure if that's good or bad.
So don't expect anyone to follow suit.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I use 34 PSI cold on all 4. I get a good patch on Toyo Open Country AT3's. They cover the ground from side to side, completely, but aren't showing any unusual wear. IE: they wear evenly, side to side. They ride nice, good wet and snowy condition traction, and they steer quite well. Decent mileage. Not great, like 20 MPG, but right about 19 MPG, as long as I drive decently. Stay easy on the clutch, and brakes. They grab good if I need sudden, hard braking action.
It took me a bit to re-learn good clutching habits, and gas/brake pedal control, after I lost my leg, but I'm getting better all the time :)

    Just my personal experience.

Careful, by contact patch on street driving is one thing, maximizing traction off-road by airing down is an entirely different purpose. Airing down for off-road allows a tire, more specifically the tread to conform to irregular surfaces. In street driving the contact patch is defined by a line (of varying thickness) that runs transverse to the wheel itself so if you are referring to running 15 psi on the street, well, that's an accident waiting to happen.

Basedon the stock tire size and load range, 40 is a little high for a 4Runner. The biggest negative to overinflated tires would be uneven wear. Severely overinflated tires could also reduce traction, and cause a rough ride. But, a lot of people run a few PSI over the recommended pressure without issues.

Really depends on the tire in particular. When I ran Hankook Dynapro AT's on my Titan they liked the OE pressure recommendation. My Duratrac's liked a bit higher pressure.
