I will hate it if one day cars stop reving. No noise sucks.

Wait and watch, people will hate the new Tundra. It has no V8 sound.

People are already complaining about it. I understand being skeptical about the reliability of a turbocharged motor, but this is Toyota. Not to mention some of the most bulletproof Motors ever have been turbocharged. Some people just aren't happy unless their vehicle is loud and guzzling gas.

The last generation Tundra has been pretty bulletproof though. One colleague at work mentioned that he is spending a bit more on fuel, but spending nothing on repairs. As opposed to some of the competitors using cylinder deactivation to achieve greater fuel economy but being problematic.

I have not owned either so I can't speak from experience. Personally, if I can have a tundra with more power than the outgoing motor and better fuel economy I will be pretty damn happy. I'm not running out to buy one tomorrow, but I might like to buy a tundra after the 4Runner is paid off.

I think the turbo will be fine. Toyota has been putting turbos in landcruisers and Hilux for a while, though those are the diesel turbo. But the biggest problem with the new tundra is lack of noise. Trucks should be noisy because they are trucks. Trucks should not behave like the prius lol

Personally, I prefer a quiet vehicle. My last 4Runner was damn near silent at full throttle. Then, towards the end, I put on an aftermarket cat back exhaust and ended up hating it.

I wouldn't mind a loud exhaust on a sports car. But, I don't see the point of it on something you're going to drive regularly. Go drive 200 miles on the freeway in a vehicle with a droney exhaust and you'll almost certainly agree that trucks do NOT need to be loud. :)

It sounds like somebody starting a car and revving it right away, which isn't good for it.

I don't mind that the 4runner is loud when I start it. But, an obnoxious exhaust is dumb on anything you might travel in.

I always look forward to being next to a Diesel Ram or Ford trucks. Love their sound. Does Ford make a diesel Ranger?

No. But, Chevy was making a diesel Colorado last I heard.

Diesels are different because they tend to quiet down when cruising.

Ram is the best full size diesel. Cummins. They sound beautiful and their longevity is incredible.

Idk. Which engine is in it? From what I understand, the more recent 5.7 Hemi has been a great motor for them. If I was going to buy a full size truck, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Ram.

I think it has the 5.7. It is Tundra's size. The Ram 2500 is the bigger guy. I really want to buy a tough American truck. But I fear they will not last as long as a 4Runner. And I am not a rich guy to keep buying new cars all the time.

The Tundra is a tough American truck. ;)

Otherwise, it seems to be a crapshoot between the big three. Depending on which particular model or engine configuration you're looking for, they all make pretty good trucks. If I was looking at a diesel I would absolutely buy a ram. But, if I was looking at a half ton, I would be torn between a ram with a 5.7 or a Ford with the turbo motor. And, to be honest my work truck, a Chevy with a 4.3 V6, has been pretty nice so far for what it is and gets pretty good fuel economy.

Tundra is a Toyota. I wanna show off to my relatives but Toyota won't impress them :D Toyotas are everwhere. I need a Ram to show off American muscle. Ram Power Wagon would be ideal but I can't afford if :D
That baby Jeep needed some Ram rescue :):D

I'm not sure how settling for a product you don't really want would be showing off.

I have known people who will only buy "American cars" and I don't give a fuck about their opinions.

If you're concerned about muscle, go drive a 5.7 Tundra and it will put you at ease. Plus, the outgoing gas guzzling version should be easy to score a deal on once the next generation starts showing up at dealerships.

Or, go get a Hemi Ram. There are probably plenty for sale anywhere at any given time. My brother and one of my best friends drive them and, they are both satisfied with them.

I normally tow between 70 an 72. However, I am spoiled from pulling a large gooseneck horse trailer for many years with my F250 7.3 diesel.

Some more torque and a gear between 4 and overdrive would make nice difference. I would really like 2 more gears to smooth it out even more.

Yes, I really think the gearing is a bigger problem then the power is. A 6-8 speed and possibly different differential gears could make a huge difference.

I don't know how big and heavy that trailer really is, but they recommend towing at 65, maximum. If I were towing something like a travel trailer, I would probably go even slower. Try it at 55-60 and the fuel economy will probably improve a ton.

Even with a big diesel, I'd be nervous to tow as fast as some of the lunatics I see. 75-80 with a 5th wheel is just reckless, IMO. of course, it can be situational.

I mean Ford was leading the way, but it seems like all of the major car manufacturers are going to dump V8s in favor of turbocharged four and six-cylinder engines.

True. My brother's EB F150 is pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind having one at all, if I were looking at a full size.

Now they never magically fixed the issues of turbos burning oil, so do they just put the oil change intervals closer to each other? Because I can’t imagine the average American consumer keeping an eye on the oil level in a turbo.

Agree 100%. The LS1 V8 in my Firebird sounds amazing with a semi loud exhaust, but while driving my 4Runner I don't want to hear the engine AT ALL.

If you consider hills on pavement an obstacle in the 4runner's way, then yes I find the 4.0 lacking torque.

While in 4 Low, even though the low range isn't the best out there, it's still plenty to make up for the lack of torque. Gearing can make up for a lot. Like old military trucks that barely made 100 horsepower, yet were designed to carry 5000 plus pounds of cargo and tow.

Garage 54 did a video where they put a bunch of differentials together on a Lada to give it super low gearing, then hooked it up to a 100 series. The Lada pulled the 100 series with its brakes locked at idle across pavement due to the low gearing.
