    hey i currently own an 04 grand Cherokee. Looking to. Cross over to a 4Runner. Looking for best platform for mild off-roading. I'll be doing a lot of reading soon

    if you wanna stay close to the features/comfort/capability of a wj the later year 3rd gens/4th gens will be best. you will notice a huge difference in quality though

    This link will have all the info you need if you're in the market for a 3rd gen. It goes into detail about which years/ trims have what. Only 96-00 have the rear locker.
