Is that recent? I know they had a lot of erosion and the beach is only about 4 miles long now.

I really do not like desalinated water. The cruise lines use to allow you to bring aboard 1 case of water and 1 bottle of wine per guest - not since COVID! My wife and I are sailing out of Maryland for Spring break to the Bahamas - We have not been on a cruise since COVID, and have never sailed out of MD. It was a last minute thing.

I cant do the drink package any more... I end up getting the Soda/Water package and bringing a bottle or two of wine on board. And any drinks I want I just pay for, but admittedly I am more of an eater than a drinker, lol. So I'd rather spend money on the dining options like steakhouse, hibachi etc....

Booked an 8 Day on Carnival Mardi Gras this November, got an extended Ocean Suite for the price of an interior room (Casino promotion). Anybody ever sailed the Mardi Gras before? it will be my first time on that ship.

We're doing Alaska on Norwegian Cruise Line in August. Anybody ever do an NCL Alaska cruise? We haven't been on a cruise in ~35 years! Nothing against cruises - we just prefer all inclusive resorts when we want to go someplace with sand/sea. Always wanted to go to Alaska - so when one of my cousins decided to organize a family cruise to Alaska - we were in. Also, it's hot/humid as hell here in August - so will be nice to go on vacation somewhere to escape that.

I'm on a NCL Alaskan cruise right now. Posting this from the NCL Joy in Skagway AK, we just hit port and I have signal.

We're on day 5 and it has been AMAZING. I've done 3 Caribbean cruises in the past, but this far surpasses them. 10/10 would recommend.

I'm not a fan of heat and humidity, so the Caribbean cruises all had a level of misery for me. In AK this time of year it feels like late fall/early winter. In Glacier Bay yesterday it was in the 30s. I'm from New England so this weather doesn't bother me, but if you're from a warmer climate, be aware you need to pack warmer clothes than shorts & tshirts. Check the local weather the week before you go and pack accordingly. It'll be warmer in Aug, but probably still on the cooler side.

I recommend layering and definitely a good raincoat and durable shoes.

Also, a balcony is worth the money, we've spent a ton of time on ours, the views are breathtaking. Yesterday morning we were spotting sea otters swimming by the ship. Binoculars are great for this, I'm so glad our travel buddies brought a second pair.

I can give you more info and some pics when I get back, I have to head to breakfast now then catch out first shore excursion of the day.

On Carnival Mardi Gras right now (Nov 15-22 sailing). Been to Grand Turks (4th or 5th time LOVE IT), Amber Cove Dominican Republic (also 4th or 5th can take it or leave it), on our way back to Port Canaveral with another day at sea (today) and tomorrow, Nassau Bahamas (Meh), and last stop Carnivals new island Celebration Key. The Mardi Gras has been GREAT, our first time on this particular ship. So nice, clean and newer. Lots of stuff for everybody to do, casino is very nice, won about $4,400 so far - I know what you're thinking "how much did you spend though?" and that $4,400 is what I am ahead, already having deducted out of that number what I spent
The ship has a roller coaster on the top deck, its pretty cool but I am super afraid of heights and you won't be finding me on that thing. lol.

Anyways, when I was walking around the 1st day with the fam, I saw a guy wearing a 4Runner t-shirt (YOHB?), not sure if you're on here or not but I didn't want to seem like a weirdo nerd and say anything lol. My guess is if you're on a cruise ship wearing a 4Runner shirt (I ironically have the same one, pic posted before for context), you probably are enthusiast enough to be on a forum too. Good to know the ship has another 4R owner so I know who to team up with in case of zombie apocalypse haha.

We’ve never done an Alaskan cruise but I’ve been told that certain cruise lines have permits to get close to the glaciers. If memory serves me correctly, Holland or Princess might have that. Anyway, not all are the same so do a little research before you book.

We just got off a Princess Caribbean cruise a couple weeks ago and leave next week on MSC, our first one with them after nearly 60 total.

We cruised to Alaska on NCL out of Seattle in August. Great cruise. One day they took the ship up Endicott Arm to the Dawes Glacier - pretty cool, got pretty close to the glacier and the trip up Endicott Arm was beautiful. But if you want to get really close you have to book a trip on a smaller boat. Some people on our ship did this. They told us they got close enough to touch the glacier and the crew of the excursion boat chipped ice off the face of the glacier to make margaritas.

Doing a cruise of the British Isles on Princess in Aug-Sep 2026.

They changed the drink package because people were getting alcohol on a soda deal.
