I have a fairly new TRD PRO with 1500 miles on it and I noticed a small chip on the roof rack paint, at the very front. Anyone else have an issue with this happening so soon? Does anyone have an idea as to what the rack is coated with, I'd like to touch it up, thanks.

Not a common problem. But all it takes is just the right rock at just the right speed and you have a chip on your hands.

My 2 year old windshield is trashed.

Do you take it through auto car washes?

Now that you've brought it up, I've taken it twice through a touch less wash, but at the end of the wash there are dryers that come pretty close to the car, they generally adjust to the contour of your vehicle. I've taken a few vehicles including a Lexus RX and a Avalanche through the same wash with no issues, but I'm guessing the dryer is what did the damage on the 4runner. Thx

Yea that line running vertically suggests a dragging action. I'm gonna say the same thing as the other guy said, that...or you wacked a garage door that was mostly open. (Wife did this....so I gotta throw it out there). Those racks are 7" taller than the roofline.

It doesn’t look that bad. It’s high up there and it’s barely noticeable. For me, I would rather get the paint code and just touch it up with spray paint.

i have the same rack and I believe there is some type of wrinkle coating texture on it. Perhaps that’s a better way of repairing it. It will apply texture and color.

I used fine grit sand paper, gave it a very light sand and noticed the edges kept wanting to peel. I did't want to keep taking off the loose areas because it seems as if there isn't a bond between the coating and the rack metal. I probably could keep peeling the paint with my nail. I masked off an area on the truck and and gave it 4 quick coats of Rustoleum Flat Black (spraypaint). Overall I'm happy, only I'd be able to notice it. Depending on how long it lasts, I will probably try to fill the indented area next time with metal filler, sand it lightly, and recoat. I would of used some of the options others have suggested but it's very hard to get most items in a timely manner due to covid.

Battle scar, looks good IMO. I imagine if it cures well that will hold a long time.

You could do a vinyl wrap on both sides for symmetry. Just over the 8” area affected.
