A decent person doesn't saw part of someone's car off while the owner is in the store.

I agree that violence is not the answer, but let's not pretend like this is someone you want housesitting or babysitting for you.

I think @Overland WT was saying that these crooks are not interested in being decent people.

And that's my problem? Looks like every cat thief has the aptitude to work with power tools, willing to work nights - hard not find work these days.

Agreed hiding behind a keyboard isn't the solution, but I busted my ass for my catalytic converter.

I'm hoping sooner rather than later there is some personal accountability from these people.

Jesus. So many people get butt hurt when someone doesn't agree with them. Where si I say these were decent people? Where did I say I or you would employ them? What I said was that they are wiling to go to these lengths to earns some cash, what else are they willing to do?

So far my favorite idea was to straight pipe it and scrap them yourself. :D

Might be a bit loud for most people's preference, though.

Everywhere I go I see "Help Wanted" signs for every thing from the Post Office to private businesses. The country is in a world of hurt because of the lack of workers. So, these people would have no trouble getting an honest job if they were willing to try. I agree with your statement about violence, but I have no sympathy for the thieves.

Same, at my local Walmart there is always a group of rough looking hippy type folks asking for a handout, meanwhile Walmart is constantly hiring workers for various departments. Only thing that makes me sad seeing them is that they have a dog or 2 they have to make suffer along with there lazyness. The dogs don’t deserve that. When I see people being lazy asking for money I don’t feel bad at all with the swing shift work schedule I work and all the overtime on top of it.

I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THEM EITHER. What I said was these people are clueless, lazy, could give an F about anyone but themselves and will go to any length to NOT be a reasonable productive part of any society. That is the part of crime that is consistent throughout our country right now.

And to think some governors are making bail free and reducing the punishments for crimes. Cops just watch smash and grabs happen these days in some parts.

I'm in my late 40's now but once upon a time I was homeless in Boulder, Co among other places. While other "kids" were asking for free money at the local outdoor mall, and getting angry when ignored, I was out hustling for cash jobs, playing guitar with a guitar case open and anything I could do to earn money. I got there because of a broken home, some juvenal delinquency and a shit set of circumstances. I didn't even graduate the first semester of the 10th grade.

You'd think that my experience with being homeless would make me more sympathetic, but the truth is that most of those kids on the street were acting homeless, being lazy and often even going home to parents at the end of the day; while I slept under bridges and tried to not get tickets for "illegal camping". I hold no sympathy for those jokers. I have busted my ass to get to where I'm at, sometimes holding two jobs and still hustling on the side. I feel bad for those people that truly have mental, health or addiction issues. For the rest... not so much. I guess along the way I got old because I'm shaking my fist and saying "Get a &^%$ job!". lol

And #1 on the dogs not deserving it although I will say, usually the dogs have it way better than their owners because people are awesome when it comes to dogs.

Sadly, the new generation of homeless "kids" do not have the same resilience as you had. Our society has turned into a "everyone owes me something" mindset, and it only leads to those who are down on their luck to stay down because they want everyone else to figure out what they should do, and give them every tool they need to do it. There's no personal accountability. It's always someone else.

Thank you for sharing your story. I try to instill in my own children that not every person you see on the street, or in "tent city" is lazy. There are those who have reasons to be where they are. Hell, they ALL do, but some, like you, see their situation and work to make it better. Those individuals are seemingly becoming fewer and far between these days though. But maybe I am getting old in my way of thinking :notsure:

Being a dog owner I would just hope that they take care of them, feed them and give them water. I know everyone should have a companion but if you can’t feed your self don’t make something else suffer as well. I am saying this as I saw the dogs on a hot ass sunny day and didn’t see any signs of water and such. Sounds like you had a good head on what you needed to do to get by and on your feet. The mentally Ill kicked on the streets I do feel bad for. In my life so far I haven’t met any homeless people putting in a effort to earn $$$ to better themselves as you have. Mostly just beggars that as you stated correctly ‘get upset’ for not handing them hard earned money probably for drugs or booze. If a homeless person came up to me straight up hungry and needing help I would take them out to a nice ass dinner let them stuff the hell outta there face and get them something to go as well and maybe a cheap motel room for a night. I have a heart for the good people struggling.

And working night shift is tough, did it for 5+ years…if you can be up all night searching through cars in neighborhoods to steal change and valuables and for this thread of course converters there are PLENTY of nice paying general labor jobs that would love to have more overnight workers where you are guaranteed so much $$$ per hour, not wondering if in the next hour the next neighborhood would be a bigger hit. That part I don’t get, todays work ethic is shit in a lot of people!
