I have a 1987 Toy auto 4runner, the fuel pump is not getting power to it, I know the previous owners have chased bugs in the system... what about just bypass with direct power through fused toggle switch?

Found easy problem fix. Someone broke/hacked/repaired fuel pump wires halfway between tank and underframe. Next problem, at 4500 RPM motor cuts out check engine light comes on. Acts like turn off key and then back on.
