Are you able to summarize his reasons? I didn't want to watch 11 minutes of how to change brakes. Or did he say it's because it's a well built heavy truck? It's a fairly light duty vehicle and not a heavy truck whatsoever. Every time i road trip / overland, i come back telling my wife the brakes are the next thing to get upgraded because their light duty. But, probably just different pads would work just fine.

    depends on how you drive
my wife and i have practically identical 4Rs, practically the same weight, practically identical lift, practically identical tires.
I get about 100-120k out of brake pads
She gets about 40-50k out of brake pads and rotors
She drives about the same speed i do, but she doesnt let off the gas and coast up the exit ramps on the freeway, she takes the exit ramp at highway speed and rolls on the brakes hard the last 250ft.
I let off and coast down the freeway ramp, and when i am loaded heavy or towing i bump the shifter down thru the gears to allow engine braking to slow me down before i get on the brakes.
I personally have powerstop rotors and TRD pads. I have had this combo on a few vehicles and have really good luck with them.

Driving habits definitely make a difference. I just inspected my brakes during a tire rotation at 48k and they were barely worn.

I changed the rear brakes in my wife’s 4R limited today. The brake pad was the tiniest little thing!! And single piston? what a disappointment!! I thought the brakes in my 1st gen Tacoma were sad but are twice the size as these little dinklings..

also do the rear brakes wear quicker than the fronts on these rigs? Got the vehicle used so unclear of when they were al changed, but the fronts were totally fine and backs were low.
