These are the best 4runner brakes to date compared to older. My rear pads wear out about 2/1 compared to the front. I got a hardware kit from Rockauto for $6 with 2 springs, etc. per front caliper, greased pins and pads good and no more occasional squeal in the morning.

this is great info. I’ve been researching the parts list here and there and it’s confusing as to what and how may of each are necessary.
Your list matches most of mine except the brake pad part number. Mine is a 2020 so not sure if they changed that.
    Thanks for the great info

Brake pad part #'s are correct. Don't buy pads with -AZ in the part#. Those are the economy pads. I just did a brake job recently with the part #'s specifically from this list.

That’s a great list to work with. I’ll always go with Toyota factory parts over any other when possible, but getting the small part numbers packaged is difficult looking at the items online. Parts departments often don’t want to help so it’s even more difficult to find.

Akebono or nothing. While youre at it, consider changing out rear soft lines as they are cheap and help firm up the pedal.

Old thread but my experience is the toyota brake assist will lock up your brakes. Did this by accident just trying to scrub spead while rolling to a red light. Apparently i moved my foot from the gas to the brake peddle to fast, everything not tied down flew to the front and i was at a dead stop 200 feet from the intersection. I then pondered how the ABS locked all four tires and my research pointed to the brake assist.

Is there any way to improve the pedal feel?

yes better pads, maybe swap fluid, new rotors, but also the final one that did it for me with substantial improvement was changing rear lines.

    I added this

Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors all 4 corners
    Akebono pads all corners
    New Toyota Brand DOT3
    New rear centric brake lines
    New sliders and basic hardware

This made the car feel like my old Audi, nice and tight and progressive brake feel. No stupid mushy dead zone where nothing happens followed by soft grab. Akebono pads dont require a break in period either just put them on and go.

Advics is good too. Many original Toyota brake parts are by Advics.

ADVICS is owned by Aisin which is partly owned by Toyota.

ADVICS was established as a joint venture between Aisin, Denso, Sumitomo, and Toyota.

I have a pair of Advics front rotors waiting to go on my Tacoma (same 319 mm rotors as the 4Runner) and the boxes do say Aisin as well.
