Has anyone figured out how to keep your 4Runner running when using the factory autostart via the Toyota app? Seems pretty counter-intuitive that it shuts off once you unlock or open your door...

Unfortunately, that is a non-reprogrammable Toyota safety feature.

Like said above, it's a safety "feature". Aftermarket remote start options don't do that but not sure about your want or compatibility with your 2022 with factory remote start.

But consensus is, it's pretty dumb.

Alright I'll be more specific, 12voltsolutions, accessorides and all of the most recent style of plug and play aftermarket remote starts do not turn the vehicle off when opening the door.

I assume you have a separate fob to use the remote start? I'll be honest I have no idea how those work. I do know the remote starts I listed above are stupid easy to install (I did it in about 15 minutes) and use the stock key fob.

Mine also uses the stock key fob. 3 button push.

i actually thought this was impossible to get around, and sure enough, even accessorides admits the vehicle shuts off when the door opens. https://accessorides.com/products/2020-toyota-4runner-remote-starter-plug-play-kit-for-push-start

Edit: same with 12volt solutions https://www.12volt.solutions/produc...-plug-play-remote-start-kit-push-button-start

Interesting... maybe talk to Compustar and see if there is a way to disable that feature.

Dang maybe I'm wrong about them as well. I know for a fact that two of the last 12voltsolutions remote starts do not and highly advertise that they don't turn off the car when the door is opened.

I wonder if it's associated with the push button start as I have a physical key.

My compustar lets me open and close the door, while keeping the motor running.

The installer told me there wasn't a way and they didn't sell one that did. Oh well thats what I get for not researching it better. Not a big deal. I'm used to it now.

If you have push button start, your (remote-started) engine will shut off when the door is opened. If not, it won’t.

Push starts will shut off no matter what remote start system you have, the Key starts will remain running.

Thanks for info! Just looked 12voltsolutions new plug and play remote start does say it keeps the engine running when opening door, $80 more then the old version which i thought was worthless if shuts off. One question, does the door stay looked and you're still able to open the door with hand? Thanks!!SmartSelect_20220306-090643_Samsung Internet.jpg

I think you’re confusing smart key systems (door unlocks with hand) with key-start systems (still the only systems that don’t turn off when you open the door). Just checked to be sure, and it’s still the case(per 12vsolutions) that smart key systems will turn off.

Im assuming but aren't all 2020 > with smart keys?
So I guess what I'm asking is, if I have a smart key and bought the new version of the 12voltsolutions auto start that stays on after the door is open, if I started the 4runner with the smart key, will the door stay locked and still unlock with hand? Thanks

A bit off topic, but is there a way to disable the auto start? i keep on triggering this auto start when I am locking the doors.

I think there are still 4Runners that don’t have the smart key. Instead they have an H-Key? I think it’s the non-premium trims. I would assume the SR5 and Off-Road. I think everything else is considered premium and has the smart key.

Thank you, I should've read that a little bit more carefully. I almost bought it.
