Such a beauty sir! It is so nice and well kept. @icebear - and you see why I'm not allowed to go to the car shows now? - The temptation to buy or work on a special project is real once you go to these outings.

This Mustang was my first collector car, and I got the old car bug when I was in my early 50's. I am now in my middle 70's, and I would be ashamed and embarrassed to talk about the amount of money that I have spent bringing this car (and the others) up to what you see today. If you can't do the work yourself, you will pay dearly to have someone do the restoration work for you. And, that's if you can actually find someone who is qualified and will do the work. At 50, I could hardly afford the hobby, so I started out doing most of the work myself. As a matter of fact, my wife brow beat me frequently because I was spending most of my time working on the car, and not driving it! The Skylark convertible was a little nicer car to start out, but to make it competitive at the local car shows, I needed to spend money on cosmetics such as paint correction, chrome and stainless polishing, ceramic coatings, stance, etc. Of all three cars, this Skylark was my favorite. It drove like a dream!

Sounds like a cover story to me! ;)

(More seriously, I don’t know anything about you! I just saw a great set up for an inappropriate joke between your vague statement and it being asked about. I’m reasonably sure nobody here thinks you’re actually a Canadian entertainment star!)

I took one of my bikes to a car/motorcycle show right after COVID, just to get out of the house. Ended up with Best in Show. I kind of felt bad. Some of these guys do this as a serious hobby. I beat out a bunch of guys that were there polishing their bikes and had these elaborate set ups. I just showed up on a whim and went walking around looking at all of the other entries in the show. When I returned, I had a ribbon on my bike. :)

I have attended and participated and competed in local and national car shows for over 20 years. I won many awards during those years, and it took me too many years to realize that instead of polishing and cleaning, it was much more enjoyable to walk around and visit with and catch up with friends and chew the fat. Actually, I probably did better by leaving my car(s) alone, and letting them speak for themselves. Several years ago, I cleaned out my home and gave away all the awards, trophies and plaques that I had won. I kept only one award, and it was a Rodder's Rep Award at the GoodGuys Rod & Custom Show (Heartland Nationals, held at Joliet, IL at that time).

Long ago, my grandfather did similar. He took all the plaques off his trophies, and attached them plaques to a nicely stained board. Then he gave the trophies to the local shop for reuse, hung up the board, and enjoyed having a lot of space back. :)

If you ever are in metro Detroit the third Saturday in August go to the Woodward Dream Cruise. It’s wild to say the least miles and miles of cars moving and parked and hundreds of thousand of people enjoying cars and trucks mostly old Detroit products but many imports also.

I am fortunate to live down the street from it and it’s like another American birthday to me. It celebrates a different era one I did not grow up in but appreciate very much.

My Dad tells me many stories about racing up and down Woodward in his teens and the drive in diners etc.

It’s busy every weekend now actually cars parked and people stopping to chat. Too bad Detroit does not build many fun cars like they did back then.
