Any fog light recommendations for someone running H9 headlights?

If i hadn't already made my own, I'd consider the bars Diode made. Bolt-on and go. I didn't need to cut the grill, just did it for fun.

 

Just an update for anyone interested. I live up a narrow windy road with no street lamps. There's quite a bit of wildlife and was looking to get a little more performance out of my fog lights.

I decided to try my luck with replacing the stock H16's with some H8's (halogen). $17 for the pair.

The H16's are 19W and the H8's are 35W. It was a very similar operation to replacing your stock low beam H11's with H9's, but easier. You just have to trim a little bit of one of the metal tabs on the H8's. The connection to the wire loom needs no modification.

I've heard of some people replacing the H16's with H11's, but that's a jump from 19W to 55W and I wasn't comfortable with that. There was one report of someone melting their fog light housing with the H11's.......but that was hearsay. Who knows.

I don't have any reports on how they perform just yet, but I will update once I try them out at night.

If they don't work out or melt my fog light housing, I'll just upgrade to some LED's.

 

H8 Halogen Fog Light update:

I'm stoked on how these work! No heat concerns whatsoever.

Definitely an improvement from the H16's. Not sure why you don't hear about this upgrade more often. When combined with the H9 low beams, you get much improved light output when compared to stock.

 

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I'm very interested in upgrading my stock fog lights with a better performing halogen bulb. I had thought of trying the Yellow H11's, but like you, I was concerned with too much current and heat. Do you still like these H8's? I'm surprised this is the first I've seen of this swap. Do you know if there are any options for Yellow H8 bulbs?

 

The H8's have been fantastic. I use them all the time and they do a great job filling in the dark spots on windy mountain roads.

I have not seen any yellow versions of the H8's.

The only possibility I can think of is get the regular H8's and maybe do something like a yellow Lamin-x film over the stock fog light housing.

 

Great news! Thanks for the reply on this. I’ve been doing some research, and I’ve found the standard Philips H8 bulbs (which would match my upgraded bulbs - at <$7 a piece!).
I’ve also found some yellow bulbs that have good ratings from other sites. Two bulbs together for $19.95. I’ll post the link below.
Thanks again for posting this - you saved me some hassle, as I was looking for something similar, but was afraid the H11’s would overheat (being 55watt in a 19 watt system).

Here’s the yellow bulbs. I think I’ll get a set, try them, and report back. Could have used them with all the recent snow!

Ok! I installed the JDM Nokia H8 2500 Hyper Yellows just a few minutes ago. Not as straightforward as I had thought; had to trim both the bottom tabs (at the 4 and 6 o’clock positions) on both sides of the tabs.
The passenger side fog light has a wierd panel over the fog light, making it hard to access, but eventually got them in.
They are brighter than stock (should be with double the wattage). They are also a nice yellow. Even in daylight, the difference is obvious. I will post back after driving at night with them.

Here’s a picture at night. As always, the pictures don’t do the actual justice. They are a much deeper yellow in person.

I’m thinking of doing my low beams, and maybe even high beams, in these yellows. So much easier on my eyes at night.

 

Glad you got them to work. Yeah, a remember getting to one of them was a little tricky but I don't remember having to trim 2 different tabs like you. Nevertheless, you figured it out and they look great!

you get all the credit for this with the tip on the H8s. They are so much brighter than the stock H16s. I would be worried about putting 55 watt H11s in the fog light position.

I crossed this bridge upgrading fogs two yrs ago. Got off Amazon as well. I bought two pair in case one craps out, but first one still going strong.
I wanted cheaper Chinese lights because I wanted trippy tri-color. 24w ea, not bad
