Somewhat new here, thought I'd ask. Me, started playing in 1983 or so. Marching and symphonic band in school/college. Been in a few awful 'garage bands" too. Now I just play in my spare time, and teach a middle school drum line. Had a few kits over the years but my main rigs are all Tama drums (early ones made in Aichi where I believe our 4Runners are built). a couple of my pics:

I have a 9 piece set of black Pearl's very comparable to your Tama's in the top picture. And a white 2018 SR5 like your bottom picture. Was in many bands through the years and played the Nashville circuit for about 7 years. Just do fill ins now and then currently whether it be rock or country.

it is a very light color. When it rains, the hood really looks white from the inside. As for the drums, I like Pearl a lot too. Had an Export kit many years ago and played their marching/symphonic stuff in college. Our percussion head at Southern Miss is a Pearl endorser so we got new gear once a year, got spoiled! wish I had that kind of pull for drum kits.

My very first set was a 3 piece set of Pearls from Sears and Roebuck. That's when Pearl was a low end drum. They've come a long way since. Played an outside daytime gig with my current set and the sun bubbled the black finish. Took them to the Pearl factory in Nashville and they refinished them while I waited free of charge. I also have a set of their original Syncussion electronics. Had a brain storm one day about using the acoustics to trigger the Syncussion head. I installed a piezo element from a Radio Shack buzzer on the bottom head of each acoustic and added jacks for connection. Worked very well and was touch sensitive too. When playing outside I mixed the acoustic sound with the syncussion through a PA amp to 2 15" speaker boxes. Result was near studio sound in an outside setting. Ahh......the good ole days!

That's some good engineering. I have a set of Simmons SDS-8s (the old hex shaped pads that were everywhere in the 80's) that I bought new in 1984. Quite primitive by todays standards but they were awesome at the time. they survived about 5 years of regular use, several moves and hurricane Katrina and the pads are now starting to fall apart but I've used my newer Roland pads to trigger the sound module when I feel nostalgic.

Yeah, it's fun to knock around with the old stuff once in a while. I have a detached 2nd garage that I can set up in and play along with my favorite tunes when I feel the urge. I have another piece of early electronics by Pearl that sweeps up or down (2 channels) and is tune-able such as the one used in Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love".
Love to play along with Boston, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Bob Seger, ZZ Top and at Christmastime The Trans Siberian Orchestra just to name a few. I keep a 16gb memory stick in the 4R and Tundra that has about any song you can name on it. Guess I could say I really love my music.
