Hi all, new guy here. Going to pickup a used 2016 4Runner SR5 tomorrow.

What are my options for the lower bumper valance? I know I can get either the silver or black valance cover from Toyota parts, but is there a metal option?

I commute 90 miles a day and there are always dump trucks that are dropping rocks. Looking for protection for the plastic bumper.

    Thanks for any feedback

My theory on bumpers is... use them. :) Which is why I've never really been a fan of these newer plastic "bumpers".

But even the above linked bumpers only "protect" the inboard bumper, the corners are still the stock plastic, along with your grill, hood, and windshield - still vulnerable to rocks.

You could get a full width bumper for like a grand, and grill guard/headlight protectors, or... just not worry about it so much. My 1st gen taco has a hood deflector thing that seems to to a pretty good job of keeping most fine particulate debris/rain off the hood (but is useless against rocks). I stopped worrying about scratches a decade ago.

Do like I always did when I built a brand new bike: Kick it over in the shop to get that "first scratch" out of the way early, then you're not so worried about babying it. For the '17 I just bought, I just let my kids get in it. 10 minutes later that "new car smell" is gone, and the seats are covered in crumbs.
