2015 sr5 premium with engine leak. need some advice on what to do. its under warranty but I don't trust a rebuilt engine. doesn't mean lemon laws in new mexico yet and dealer just wants me to pay more for a new one. any thoughts? it was leaking out of the cylinder head and appearently is the 4th one that Toyota has seen reported. so if you have a 15 4runner may want to make sure your head isn't leaking.

If it's under warranty, get it to the dealership. Just because there's a leak doesn't mean it's going to be an engine rebuild. Could be something as simple as a seal.

dealership told me that there was a problem at the factory which produced porous heads that leak. so yeah it is an engine rebuild. I already saw it and they completely striped it. would you want to drive a vehicle with a rebuilt engine when you just bought it? just saying.

Hard to say. I wouldn't settle for a rebuild, at the minimum I'd want a new crate engine, but that's pretty unheard of. Have you contacted Toyota corporate yet?

yeah I talked to corporate but wont hear back until Tuesday. really sick about it. I love my truck and they have me in a stock rav 4 while I wait. The dealership is going to make money when they recertify it and sell so I really feel like they should do right by me and put me in something the same as I'm in or better at their discretion. when I talked to the service manager he had just bought a 4runner and was freaked out that his could be affected as well.

One of the sales managers that I work with was having issues with a brand new Venza. Toyota wouldn't make it right, so he got a lemon law lawyer. They ended up buying it back for essentially what he paid for it. Short of that, demand a free 125k mile warranty with the rebuild, and when you get to 100k start looking at a trade in? I know it sucks. I've always bought Toyotas because my family tends to run them into the ground. My Tacoma has 106k miles on it (I bought it with 12) with the plan of running it into the ground, but life changes demanded I get a vehicle with a real backseat (Tacoma is an access cab) hence the 4runner, which is just shy of 100k now. Both vehicles have been worry free since I got them and I'm hoping on at least 300k out of the 4runner.

I have a lot of attorney friends and they said I probably don't meet the lemon law criteria quite yet but I guess I can call someone that specializes in it and see what they have to say.

I do not have any pictures of it. the dealership noticed my skid plate was covered in oil the two times I brought it in for service. said that they fixed the leak after the first try and then found that they had not when I brought it back. frustrating at best.

I guess I'm not seeing the issue really. If it's the cylinder head it's self have them put new heads on it and all new OE gaskets above that. The check sonic is having the same issue with shit cylinder head. They are on national back order or they were anyhow.

Has this option been looked into.

you mentioned you were in New Mexico, would you have happened to get it at american toyota? i had a close friend just pick up the same model 4runner you picked up, minus the particular issue you had.....but it had a transmission issue, and was in their possession for over 3 weeks, before my friend said he'd had enough of waiting for it, especially since it was paid for. He went back in, explained the situation and they just gave him a different rig. same year and model. if it were me id have a little more to say with the higher ups of that dealership to see how the problem can be resolved. especially if you JUST bought it. but now that you mention it.....im going to go check mine. :duel:

I missed Ramadi and Fallujah, but I gave it back ten folds in Afghanistan in 2008 when were first back in the south. It was trigger pulling the first day. It was a LONG Deployment!

It clearly is a warranty issue, just let them do their thing. Drive the rental. Wait. It will be fixed.

A rebuilt engine done by the dealership at Toyota's direction will carry the same warranty as the original engine that is in the truck, so you still have powertrain coverage for a significant amount of time. If something goes wrong witht he rebuilt engine, then file a warranty claim at that time.

People worry needlessly about things like this. It either will be fine, or it won't. Either way, it's not a big deal. You think any of the families of the Paris, San Bernadino victims would give two shits if their truck had a porous head right about now? Perspective.
