I'm buying a stock 1990 SR5 V6 this weekend and will be doing a light duty, easy trail build. There is a little bit of rear sag and I would like to run 31s. I'm looking for suggestions regarding lifting it, i.e. best practice for getting 2-3 inches without a full fledged lift kit.

It has 225,000 on the chassis and the engine was replaced under recall at 125k.

3" lift but mostly all stock not a scratch on it it is pristine condition amazing for being 19 years old.
performance shocks should give you the lift you are looking for for the rear in the front plastic spacers over the coil springs should take care of the front but they only give 2 inches more clearance any more than that your ride will become stiff and wear out parts faster like u joints and ball joints just good quality ride lifting shocks should do the trick.larramo

Thanks! I figured it would be that easy, still considering new springs all around, just for a refresh.

trd over size coil springs are the way to go a little pricey but its the right way to do it just be careful when swapping out the old ones if they let go it will rip your head off rent good quality spring suppressor good luck be safe. larry

I think you are thinking about a 1996 and new 4runner. '90-'95 are torsion bar fronts.

For a basic lift in the front get a ball joint spacer. Rears are just your typical coil spring. I understand stock coils from a FJ80 will give you roughly 3" of rear lift.

yes but i would not lift it any more than 3 inches and if you put 33s on it let me tell you from experience i did and instantly regretted it they tore up my ball joints and rubbed ageist inter fender walls and that was with a 3 inch lift and made so much noise on the road it was unbearable had to turn the stereo all the way up to drowned out the noise so you might want to think about 285/75/16 that is what i have and they are great. Toytech has a 2 inch kit for 1990-1995 4runners for 300. Then get some extended shocks. I'm installing the kit today haha!

No need, I can visually see an improvement. My '90 is sitting stock right now on 31's, just wanted to see what the added 2" would do for it. I don't want to get too carried away, it will eventually get a solid front axle and either leaves or links.

    Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Not to change the subject but, Tg7 what's the story on your ditch light brackets? Bought or did you fab them up yourself?
