I guess you ain't bad azz unless you're visually loud about it.

I understand some grilles, though. For example, the new Tundra will also be turbocharged. While I'm no fan of turbos, they do need additional cooling, which means more air. In other cases, I'm sure that it's just being big to be big.

Or we could add more fake air scoops. Nothing says performance like a non-functioning air scoop.

Agggghhhh!! Don't come at me with that first thing in the morning!

LMAO, yeah that's an unfortunate looking truck. Every other angle it's decent looking, but that grille...yikes.

How about the Chevy HD hideous bulging tailgate with three badges, and huge font?

And that rear bumper looks so wacky. Seems functional though. Does anyone need a super complex double folding tailgate that turns into a lighted step stool?

I read that they went to a coil spring rear end. Pretty sweet! I don't see the point of leaf springs aside from heavy duty trucks.

This reminded me of this: :D

Should really improve the ride quality! Also, not sure if it’s just the animation but the spindle on the front looks pretty beefed up with some material. Hopefully it’s pointing at being capable to do some baja style runs.

I've always wanted a truck with a 3 or 4 link rear end. Good on Toyota for having the balls to make one.

It was actually one of the (many) reasons I went with the 4Runner.

I was going to say I know Ram had gone this route as well. I wonder how people are liking them.

Shows you how much I know.

In my defense, I don't even consider Ram an option when purchasing vehicles.

lettering will become so common than the logo grilles will eventually become the "unique" or upgrade choice.

think about it, they are trying to pay homage to old LCs from the 70s and 80s but eventually the 2nd/3rd gen 4Runners will be just as old as those LCs are now and the basic logo front end will be the new "old school cool". mark my words.

We must accept that the next engine, whatever it is, wont be more reliable than previous engines. But why? Simple math, more parts equals more failure points and additional complexity. Just look at NASA who targets 1% failure rate, even with that they still have thousands of failures since there are millions of parts. This is what you work against when you design anything. This has always been true, even with earlier generations.

I really hope Toyota shrinks or at least maintains current dimensions, the current generation is too large already. That additional size makes it even harder to design an engine that wont be underpowered. That was the biggest problem with the 5th gen in my eyes, the engine was plenty powerful for a 3rd gen 4runner, but in the 5th gen it became barely adequate for most people.

I hope it's still made in Tahara plant, but moving to the new Mexico (not New Mexico plant lol) plant makes perfect sense. The 4runner hasn't been sold in Japan (as a Surf) for a while. This will be the first generation since they made the Mexico plant, and it will already be making the Tacoma on the same platform. So for logistical reasons, why keep shipping them half way across? Especially considering NA is the only market that I know has the 4runner (with few exceptions).

As a tall guy with a tall wife, we appreciate the legroom in the Gen 5. She sat in a ‘22 RAV4. And it was an immediate nope because of the restricted drivers space. Point well taken about what a 1% failure rate really means. Another reason to avoid all the twin turbo nonsense. KISS.

From the looks of it, the 6th gen should get roughly a 15% boost in torque. More importantly, we'll be able to use that torque in normal driving rpms.

5th gen produces peak torque at 4,400 rpms. 2.4 turbo peak torque is at 1,700 rpms. With larger tires and other heavier mods, that extra low end torque will definitely be useful.

I'm also hopeful the 6th gen will be a little lighter than the 5th gen to begin with.

I wouldn't mind an extra low range transfer case, or something like a crawl box from the factory.

Hopefully with a modern transmission (more gears) they'll be able to use lower geared differentials as well.

Exactly. The best feeling engine I've ever owned was a 5.7 V8 that only made 230 horsepower.... but 345 ft lbs at 2,800 RPM.

This was a Tuned Port 350 in a 88 Trans Am GTA (also knows as the L98 to GM nerds).

My 5.7 LS car is WAY faster, but around town the GTA felt stronger bc all that TQ available off idle.

Yeah, current crawl ratio is pretty underwhelming, but I wouldn't hold my breath for anything like that from Toyota.
