Linked below are maintenance maps for the 5th Gen 4Runner. The maps detail the maintenance scheduled 0-100K, 100K-200K, & 200K-300K miles. These maps are to be an ongoing project that the community can use and improve upon, so any suggestions will be taken to consideration.

*Huge thanks to Soft Taco (Tyler) on Tacoma World, lots of inspiration on this and his go ahead to take what he created for the Tacoma and run with it for the 4R! I was jealous of this project he did and wanted the 4R community to have something like this as well. If you have a Tacoma, checkout the maintenance maps here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-maintenance-maps-get-300k-miles.789809/

I like the visuals. But what’s your source for this? They seem to be based on the Maintenance/Warranty manual, but with some “enhancements”.

The 60K interval lists a spark plug change, but that’s too soon, the manual says 120K.

You show transmission fluid changes at 60K for severe and 100K for normal. Then at 120K for severe. That’s too soon. The Toyota schedule establishes a normal interval then halves it for items it considers severe. Your chart would require the user to realize to ignore the “normal” 100K trans service if they were following the “severe” interval.

Anyway, good job with this project. You might want to compare the chart vs the Toyota manual again to catch anything else.

One more thing, it may make more sense to organize it for a 120K range like the manual does. And maybe add notes that describe the enhanced additions, like I noticed the power steering change.

Interested where you sourced torque values, since it could have values for other bigger maintainance jobs or other common work, like suspension mods etc. Seems like anytime I start something, I’m trying to figure out torque values when my hands are greasy and I’m already tired, so it just ends up set by feel.

Honestly a big push for the Torque map was so that I didn't have to research mid project, ha! But I have this pinned and constantly refer back to it, Trail4R did a great write up on suspension torque. Most others were sourced by crosschecking different forums to Toyota. Glad you find it helpful! (https://trail4runner.com/2020/06/17/5th-gen-4runner-torque-specs/)

Thanks for the feedback, always welcome here! A lot of independence research went in and most of the charts are intended to be adapted to your drive style and the intervals that make the most sense for your rig. The overland community might follow a more severe interval, than folks who don't necessarily take their 4R's off-road. So the thought is if you are following severe, you skip normal, and vice versa.

In terms of the spark plugs, most "long-life" plugs manufactures state a huge change window from 60,000 - 150,000 miles. I guess I am just cautiously optimistic and like wrenching that I'd rather service on the low end... rather the high. Probably why I change my oil every 5K miles even though I realize that I could do 10K pretty easily HA!

For me I printed and laminated the map so I can write on it with a sharpie, when I do severe interval change like transmission my intentions is to mark off the normal service when I mark off the severe so that way I skip it when that mileage comes around :) But definitely a good idea to do a little write up of additions, that maybe the next version!

Personally I would have liked a different color or a different symbol (i.e. triangle) for everything that is in the scheduled maintenance from Toyota vs your recommendation.

i will print this and highlight the ones from Toyota so I can see the difference.

regardless of this, amazing work it looks great and it’s very easy to read. Thanks a million times for this!

Good work. You might want to update your wheel nut torques. My '22 4Runner manual states the torque is 76 ft lbs for aluminum rims and 83 ft lbs. for steel rims. Not a huge difference but I have seen wheel studs break when overtightened and doing some hard 4 wheeling.

First of all, this is super great. I got my FJ up to 286k miles before trading it in. My 4Runner has 156k now and I love doing my own work.

secondly, I posted these in the 5th gen 4Runner maintenance group of fb regarding spark plugs like others here, but also on torque values.

One guy said the front and rear brakes are not the same torque. The front has no banjo bolt and if I remember correctly the rear caliper mounting bolts only get torqued to 75ft lbs.

here is my contribution of torque specs!

I posted this at the beginning of the month on another thread because the spec chart in the thread posted was incorrect (brakes).
