This ain't no lie. 2-3 years at best. That's why I buy from Costco. They won't replace for free anymore, but they have a generous pro-rated program.

I’m pretty torn on whether I want to wring more out of my factory Panasonic or just bite the bullet. The battery is ~five years old now. Left to my own devices I’d probably replace in a year or less.

Since it can’t be sourced in North America, I’d be interested in a serviceable battery since I don’t mind topping off but not sure if they exist in this context/fitment.

(anyways, the record I have is ~14 years on the factory battery in my parent’s ‘98 Sienna.)

Longest lasting battery I have ever had in my other vehicle, still kick’n out amps.

Florida heat here. About 2.5 years. On third battery in less than 6 years. Was the same with our previous Gen 5.

It seems like 4-5 years is about all you get out of batteries these days.

Well, I went to my neighbora work place, Autozone. He load tested the battery, it was shot.
    Duralast, 3 year warranty.
We spoke of AGM. He said it was on the list for 4runners, but I opted for the regular lead acid.
    200 bucks.
The battery I took out was from Alabama, 2/21. So, it lasted a while while doing mostly short runs, in SC, and maintainer charger when gone on travel for work since I bought it 3 years ago.

7 years now on the original Panasonic. I carry a battery jump start and 10mm wrenches just in case.

There are aftermarket voltage boosting fuses available that help bump the overall voltage up 2 volts (14 range) to keep the AGM battery charging optimized.

Temperature fluctuation kills batteries for sure.

My wife's 23 sits most of the year in the garage and we only use it when we go on road trips and stuff. It's not an insulated garage or anything but it does stay out of the sun and where we live it tops out at 105-109 in the summer and over 90 most summer days, so it's not a mild climate and it gets hot in the garage too. It can sit for 3-4 months at a time with no battery tender and starts right up when we use it, every time. Frankly I am impressed by the batteries that came from the factory.

my 2011 SR5 OEM battery lasted almost 8 years before I had to replace it. Something sounds sketchy with yours as it should last a lot longer than 4

OEM Panasonic lasted 10 years. Super start lasted 4. Let's see how long this Everstart goes.

So much more parasitic draw for newer vehicles its hard for even the best to go for many years if you don't drive a lot. My Panasonic went after 3 years and i swapped it for an AGM with voltage booster and trickle charge now and then in the winter. An AGM is a pain in the ass if you don't drive a lot but its a better battery all around for durability and capacity.

I've been using them for awhile now and seem to get about six months to one year beyond the warranty period. So, 3-4 yr for the acid and 4-5 for the AGM. And this in AZ.
An upside is there is pretty good coverage by Walmart for replacement should you be on the road. That used to be part of my thinking with Die Hard/Sears back in the day but times have changed...

    4.5 years, mostly city trips.
Not sure. My other cars are between 3 to 4 years. The Mercedes GLK 350 has had one battery since bought in 2014 as a new 2015 model.

I live in TX. Heat is death to lead acid batteries. So I buy the cheapest batteries that meet Toyota's spec.

I have never been able to make expensive battery warranties pay.

My experience is that when you by an expensive battery with a "warranty" the warranty is pretty much useless after a couple of years. You don't get enough $ to break even. You always pay.

All lead acid batteries have to be strong enough to contain an internal explosion or be vented.

Building a case stout enough to contain an explosion is too expensive. So lead acid batteries vent. The hydrogen generated during charging has to go somewhere, thus the vent.

So the early failures of "sealed" lead acid batteries is usually due to the electrolyte drying out.

In my opinion buying cheap and replacing in 2 - 3 years is the way to go...

I don't understand the drain, where is the juice being zapped to? Mine can be parked for 3 months at a time and starts right up. Meanwhile some neighbors of mine complain their newer toyota or honda or subaru can't sit for more than a few days at a time before the battery goes flat.

my 2011 was my daily driver (30 mins to and from work) before I passed it onto my son.

He drives it 15-20 mins to and from work and around town as of April 2022. The 2nd battery (Duracel from CJ’s tires) is on its 6th year without issue.

i hooked up my carista obd2 dongle, and every electrical setting i turned to either off right away, or the shortest setting. Also, I leave my rear cargo lights off, and the tailgate lights when opened.

I have my DRLs also disabled, allowing only the ambers on while in that position. I don’t know if it will help with battery life or what not, but I even turned down the brightness for the blind monitoring, etc too lol. I doubt it helps but whatever.

when I do move on from factory battery I’ll just get a group 24F with highest CA and CCA, unless the OEM tray can hold a bigger battery?

I got 9.5 years out of my original battery in my 2010 4R SR5 4x4. I know that is probably an anomaly, but I believe the reason it lasted so long was because I drove it at least 6 days every week.

FYI, if anyone reading through this is thinking about a voltage booster, it appears that ArclightLed where I got mine is no longer in the game. Their site says they are now focusing on NSX & S2000 products only. Too bad as mine is a nice product.

So many more electronic gadgets and monitoring going on. Like with my 4R the fuel pump goes through a cycle for like 30min 9 hours after sitting off. Then add any aftermarket items.

    What year is yours?

Here in hot south Florida batteries rarely last much more than 3 to 3.5 years. I hate to be stuck somewhere with a dead battery so I put a new one in every 3 years and mark the date on top with a paint pen . Peace of mind .

    2023.

I literally just park it in the garage, leave it for three months, and come back and it starts right up. Did it three times now.
