So I have 35k on my 2016 5th Gen Tail and I have had nothing but problems with the brakes. I have complained to my dealer since 10k service that I get a pulsating when braking and it gets worse on long road trips (to the Mountains snowboarding). They said that they are getting hot and have a slight deform and as long as the return to normal when it cools I will be ok. Well my last service at 35k the dealer said that my front brakes are shot and the rotors would need to be turned and new pads. I got my car back and its a whole new car and the new breaks are amazing! Has anyone dealt with bad factory brakes?

I did a complete inspection on my 2016 in dec 2017.. had 10K miles on it .. I when rotating the tires @10K miles removed all the brake pads checked for caliper operation and lube of the cal pins .. all looked perfect I was very impressed with how toyota did the assembly work .. much better than GM vehicle ..

So I will have to say you have a heavy foot on the brakes ... since they cut your rotors I will expect you to be bitching after a few K miles with rotor distortions and pedal vibs again... some areas people will drive too close to the vehicle in front and the distracted driving then a 10 car pile up due to driving @80MPH about 15 ft apart ..

when going down the mountain down shift to reduce speed ..

this is great for vehicle manufacturers ..

Usually hissing sounds cause by worn out pads as per tire/wheel technicians but I maybe wrong with it too. I'm saving some mola and will upgrade breaks to TRD or Brembo or whatever is best for the bucks.

The hissing is coming from the pedal area, but I don't hear anything outside as with other vehicles when pads are low, is the pedal hissing a 4runner specific notification for low pads?

I hope its not the BRAKE booster leaking expensive part.. if vehicle is stopped and the noise is occurring have the booster checked for leak..

Crap, this might be the case... Would it also make the noise if the vehicle was off??

shutdown the engine key out then push on brake pedal , if it makes the sound most likely booster leak..brake pedal connects to booster under dash .

go to dealership could be that sound it normal ... some vehicles do create a slight sound when depressing the BK pedal .. if the booster has a big leak then the brake pedal will be harder to push down .. small leak may not change this effort but if its somehow damaged the pedal will start to be harder to push down.

No issues with pedal pressure. Just to confirm, this is the same noise I'm getting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQBvV4KNh4k

with your video that sounds like a scraping ... also if it was a vacuum booster leak that sound would go away after depressing the brake pedal a few times. engine off .. check the pedal arm and connections for any interference ..

yes that is too loud ...

Just replace brake master cylinder will solve the problem. I had 2016 4RUNNER SR5 only has 35miles on it, has same noise, dealer replaced cylinder, noise is gone. now I am driving 2017 TRD same issue.

My 21 TRD OR does the same thing thought it was a vacuum leak but it is more of a suction noise at the brake pedal boot in the fire wall. I am waiting for the weather to get better to look at it more no issue with brakes just that suction noise in footwell area, also first cold stop in the morning front brakes squeak louder than a garbage truck does.

your brakes work correctly . so the brake boot probably was not setup correctly.under the dash brake pedal area .

I bought my 2013 with just under 80K miles on it. Per the Carfax, the brakes were done around 70K. Now at 132K, haven't touched the brakes, and haven't had any of these issues.

I guess I'm easy on my brakes.

My truck has made the same sound in the footwell since new. From the research I did, it is normal.
