My whole point about high-idle, thick trans fluid, is that the engine rpm is driving the wheels at the slow speeds this is occuring. No engine braking available…

Depends. Going from high speed with low/no RPM dropping a gear will slow you. At a high RMP (Or 4L) you will will keep going, even with some break pressure will feel weird since its not stopping as easily/normally.

I honestly think you nailed it. It did move forward like it was at “high idle”. This is very good to know.

Borla exhaust, Jet MAF sensor, K&N filter, Hayden rapid cool transmission cooler, Hella horns, electric fan, Pedal Commander, Derale power steering cooler,
You have to hold the button about 4 seconds to turn skid and Trac off. Pushing the button turns off skid control up to about 30mph and it shuts off. Holding 4 seconds turns skid and Trac off, but you have to reapply every key turn. It will keep trying to go straight on snow and ice if you don't. Mine goes great after that.

Hold Trac button 4 seconds before moving and I use my electronic manual shift to upshift and downshift for braking.

That must be a normal Toyota thing ;) but definitely not funny with the weight of these cars.
Staying on the brakes is a mistake here, and also too much engine braking can be bad.
Try to get those wheels turning to keep control.

I've already seen a prado driving downhill on the mountain road here in icy conditions. He only stayed on the road by accelerating slightly so that the wheels turned and he could correct/counter-steer, otherwise he might have crashed down the hill.

Stay safe or leave the Toyota at home for once (in such conditions).
Greetings from almost spring then winter.

Sounds like many folks need to learn the proper way to drive in snow/ice conditions.

This is quite clearly an ice + tire + a little driver skill problem. I don't think the rubber cares what kind of badge you have when friction takes the day off.

Also, there goes the "locked wheels would have been better" argument.
