Great picture!! I'm not any kind of photographer or artist but the composition and transitiion into the curve of the road and the mountains is really nice,to my eye.

Yesterday, I did the same trail in Big Sur that MattMo did earlier in this thread. Fun and very scenic!

Great pics looks like the wildflowers are starting to bloom, don’t they know we are in a Crisis! Lol
Is there a name to that trail, assume it can be done with stock tires?

    Thanks! The wildflowers were gorgeous!

Yes, it's the old coast road. If it's dry, you'll have no problem with stock tires. I was in 2wd the entire time.

There are some some rocky sections that could make someone with a P-rated tire a little uneasy, but I have P-rated A/T's and had no issues.

    It was.

I'm not sure under what circumstances they close it.

There is private property on both sides of the road for a good stretch, but I believe the road itself is public. I could be wrong.

There are some homes you pass along the way, so I imagine it remains open for all the homeowners.

This was way too many years ago but, I was driving from the inland side and came across a washed out section in my Land Cruiser. I made it through that and was within a mile of the coast, when I met up with a road crew to install new culvert pipe. A guy in a Monterey County P/U told me that a gate was locked and gave me the combo to the lock. I locked it behind me and went on my way.

Great looking rig. What kind of tire carrier is that?

It’s Rig’d Ultraswing. Great carrier!! Hitch mounted and designed for a 5th gen. Not a generic Wilco which I had before.

Hey Jennifer, if you have or know someone with AAA, the Monterey County map is detailed and easy to follow.
And even local book stores in the bigger cities along Hwy. 1 & the 101, will have local county maps.
And it's only 13 miles So. of Carmel. Adventure awaits.

Got backed into by a 20 something - kid driving a yellow Mustang GT.
Both of us were backing out of our parking spots at the same time. I stopped 1/2 way out of my spot, started blasting my horn.
He kept going. Backed right into my Rhino Shackle Hitch Receiver.

No damage on my 4Runner. My Rhino Shackle (minus D-Ring) poked a perfect hole in his bumper.
    https://www.rhinousainc.com/product...zi-aoC2YLUjqmpGC0l3sh80YTImZsBt0aAja8EALw_wcB

He admitted that he didn't see me at all. Also said he'd rather take care of his damage himself instead of involving the authorities / insurance company. I agreed and we shook hands and went our own ways.

Hopefully he doesn’t change his mind later. Always get something in writing or have a police report made, only way to cover your ass and not get screwed down the road.

Seeing as this is the "4R in scenic places" thread, I figured we'd see at least one photo of a 4R next to a yellow Mustang GT with a hole in the bumper, with a scenic parking lot for a backdrop...

    My bad, wrong thread.

Here's a creek I explored briefly the other day. Looked like I could've driven right across it to the other side.

Went out for a family hike and off road trip on Saturday. Finally got my baby dirty! I love all of the scenery of different parts of the country, and I admit I miss the water, snow, and trees, as I grew up in PA. The desert is beautiful in its own way and I have learned to appreciate it. This was the first time I actually used the 4x4, and I was very impressed. I drove IHC Scouts for years, and I would say that my 4R, would do everything that they can do and more, in a stock configuration. I know that A/T tires are in my future for sure, but I am not 100% convinced that I need to scrap the stock suspension. Perhaps just a leveling kit, as I am not a fan of the factory rake. I suppose it depends on what I plan on doing. I am also on the fence on my ORP wheels. I do love the TRD Pros, but it seems that literally everyone has them. Happy Easter Everyone!:amen: :oldglory:

Beautiful scenery! Like you, I saw no need to scrap the stock suspension (springs, anyway), as I opted for the Eibach Pro Truck Sport struts & shocks to pick up the front, and have no plans to replace the OR wheels. I did pick up some AT tires, though, just because one of my oem Dunlops got ruined, and was expensive to replace...

I am increasingly leaning toward the Eibach setup also. Almost pulled the trigger the other day at about 685.00!

First time getting off-road in the 4Runner! Couldn't be happier.
Sock Fox suspension did pretty well in that first picture. It was a bit more steep and technical than the picture appears to be, with a sharp dropoff into a stream just on the other side. Going in the other direction, my bumper got a small scratch but no worries, it was fun!
