The road to White Pocket is not easy, but it’s a fun challenge navigating and driving there. Depending from where you start (Page AZ or Kanzb UT) if will be about a 3.5 hour journey through deep sand and some rocky areas to climb over. Carry gear in case you get stuck in sand (shovel, traction boards). People often get stuck there and tow/rescue costs about $1K. Carry food and water. No cell service. Use an offline GPS navigation map like Gaia. And get the National Geographic paper map
    “Paria Canyon, Kanab
    Vermilion Cliffs National Monument
    Grand Staircase-Escalante NM”.
The forest service road signage can be confusing.
It’s Bureau of Land Management bordering on wilderness so pay attention to where you can go and camp. The scenery there is outstanding.
    https://www.blm.gov/sites/blm.gov/files/documents/files/AZ White_Pocket_PDF.pdf

PS: Heed the warning for “deep sand” red-lined routes. Do not go there. It’s *really* deep and on a hill. Follow the yellow highlighted route.

Also, it’s so awesome you should spend several hours there exploring. Allow a full day for travel and exploring.

Haha that would be an epic picture. Actually, launching a gas power RC car off the features of White Pocket would be wild, but: 1.png

Done a lot. Essentially, I converted the 4Runner into a mini RV that I can live out of. Most of it is posted in the "What have you done for your 4Runner today?" [sic] section only because I didn't know when I began the build that there was a section for builds. The times I've tried to consolidate those posts, I could not find them easily, thus passed on consolidating them. If you, or anyone, knows a simple way of searching those specific post I (1) would appreciated and (2) would consolidate them into a build thread as it is a lot that I have done.

This is not my 4Runner, but I'm curious if it's anyone's here. This knucklehead, for whatever LACK(!) of reason, cut me off while I was driving 80mph on I-10 W before exit 236 Marana Rd., just past Tucson, AZ, at about 9 pm on 2 Feb 2024.

If someone in the forum, here is my public statement: Do you want to drive fast(er)? Have at it. Here, the highway is clear. There is no reason to invade anyone's lane for you to drive fast(er)!

If this is some 4Runner community greeting, count me out, as I do not participate in stupid shit!

If you can't be nice to yourself, be nice to others as we have nothing to do with your lack of character.

After finishing (somewhat) the NMBDR in Antonito, CO, on 1 Feb 2024, I got out of there as fast as I could as 1-2' of fresh snow was on its way. It was still snowing there yesterday morning, 3 Feb 2024, some 36 hours after I left. Otherwise, your picture looks great (except for the photobomb in jeans ).

    @playdixie

Driven over it a number of times, @Yamahamer is correct, "...it's all used up before it gets to the Gulf," even before it crosses the USA/MX border. No longer reaching Mexico.

Haha that was my mom and her dog :D It was awesome there wasn't a sole insight up there. It was my first time taking the 4R and making trail through new snow. It was awesome! Can't wait to go back. I'm definitely jealous of the snow you guys get in CO!

I know what you mean. I often see that behavior of passing then cutting quickly in front of me even though they have miles of clear multiple lanes ahead of them. It’s almost like they were taught to pass then quickly move out of the “passing lane”. Or they came from a state where road signs in some rural areas say “keep right except to pass”.
Either that or they’re just a-holes.

I did that as well when i did my build thread; went back digging through all my posts. If you go in your profile you can find all your posts. It's "only" 265 so might not be too terrible to skim through. I think it would be worth it. Sounds really cool.

There's a lot of bad driving on that stretch of road. I often take alternate routes between Phoenix and Tucson to avoid it.

Did they at least give you a 3 blink turn signal?

Understood. As the eastern third of the country will be begin to melt in the next month or so, along with spring rains, the MS River has a good possibility of flooding.

    Again.

I remember as a kid (prob 90 or 91), there had been SOOOO much snow melt and rain in late Feb into March, that the MS River and her tributaries had flood. Badly. There is a nearby river call the Coldwater River and the rains had been so much, one of the local highways used to be low levels near the river it actually topped the highway.

I also believe there was a string of strong tornadoes in the midwest.

Sometimes by end of Feb going into March, weather warms up a good bit here in Mississippi and rest of Dixie, we get our first tornado season.

It seems doable and already started. Likely will take me a few days. Your instructions for finding the post from the profile make it doable, even if it is 200+ posts. So thanks. Previously, I'm not sure how I went about it, but it seemed like it would take forever. This is what I've done to start. https://www.4runners.com/threads/4runner-converted-to-go-anywhere-rv.36487/

I would also like you to see your build if you would share the link.

    Thanks again.

I concur. For years, I have described that stretch of road as the worst drive ever. And I have driven lots, including 3rd world driving.

I didn't count the number of blinks. However, a turn signal does not equal the right of way. Despite it is too common for folks to consider the signal as right of way, and that's not correct. In the pictures I shared, the lane invasion occurred within a single hash mark. Regardless of roadway, the safe distance for cars is 3 secs. Larger vehicles, like SUVs, are 5 secs, and larger vehicles, like commercial vehicles or Class A RVs, are 6+ secs. On top of that, the safe distance ought to be doubled during inclement weather as it was raining moments before. Thus, the blinker is a moot point.

    No judgment, simply an observation.

Careful of what you wish for. I am a native New Yorker (and lived as far north as Germany, too), and My Life [sic] is a Coloradan, and we live in Phoenix. An inch or two of snow is okay, but when it's by foot, it's not so much fun and exponentially as we age, the latter as to why so many snowbirds flock to southern states in the winter. Like here in AZ, the only reason folks tolerate our weather is because seasonal misery (like AZ summer) is only 3-4 months. The rest of the year, living there is pleasant.

For myself, being a retired Commercial Driver, the use of a turn signal is not a moot point.
I was just referring to the safety aspect of things and that 3-blink (turn signal) thread.
I'm not in any way taking your safety lightly.
Safe travels to you and all.
