I have been looking at the Pro for years, but they are way beyond my budget. I can't even afford the ORP, but got myself into debt for it because I couldn't wait anymore as sixth gen 4Runner is not what I want.

I almost bought this but stopped myself from that blunder, because it was too much for me back then. My income was not enough for it.

Just saw this bad boy. It has more ground clearance than my Offroad for sure. The KDSS skid plate doesn't help my clearnace. Not sure if the Fox shocks are as good on the road as the KDSS.

Thanks, I get what you're saying now. Of course 17" rims mean more rubber between the wheel and the road so long as you're keeping the same total diameter. For some reason I thought you were talking about trying to make the truck sit lower to the ground lol.

Anyway, I'd just observe that the 20" rims still give you a lot of rubber -- especially compared with most vehicles. I can't believe how little cushion there is on a lot of cars -- it's like only an inch sometimes! Crazy!

Sure, if you're doing serious off roading, and especially if you need to be able to air down, then 17" rims are the way to go. I'm just saying there is plenty of wheel protection for on road use with the tires that come on these 20" rims. It's a difference of only 1.5" of height. And there's an added benefit for handling / body roll from the reduced flex, which is a plus for the more on-road oriented Limited.

All that said, I'd like to have a 17" wheelset with AT or winter tires, and be able to swap back and forth depending on conditions. To me that would be ideal.

After few options I've tried, now I use Falken Wildpeak AT3W 285/70R17 Standard Load on 17" TRD Offroad wheels. They are 3 peak mountain snow flake rated tires which is perfect for me here in CO.

Years ago I had a car that came with 16" wheels from the factory. I forget what brand the stock tires were. I put 18's with Toyo Proxes and despite being less sidewall, the Toyos gave a better ride. There wasn't much sidewall either.

Why does it need to "win"? They're all the same basic vehicle...who cares?

Can I ask you something. Is your KDSS doing fine after all these years?

Mine doesn't have it. I've never driven one with it, so I don't know if I'm missing anything, haha. I think it drives fine w/out it, and I have a buddy who used to be a Yota tech tell me I'm better off without it.

I bought this used, and it not having it wasn't any kind of deal breaker for me. I'd have bought it either way, but I like that I don't need to worry about buying parts that are KDSS compatible. Getting a model with the rear locker was the most important thing to me.

Someone else mentioned that is should be available as a stand alone option on the SR5, I 100% agree. I believe in Australia it's actually standard on some SR5 trim 4x4'S.

KDSS makes the 4Runner a little more comfortable. I really want to hear from someone here who has had the KDSS for 10 years, and how durable it is.

SR5. Technically it is a Premium, but the only upgrade is the syntex heated seats. I didn't feel the need for an OR, as I have a winch. If I get in a jam I'll just winch it out. Money I did not spend for a locker will go towards an upgraded sound system, which I will use way more than I would ever use a locker.

I thought this poll could use some translation. So as of this writing the basic rounded results are:

    >50% Offroad. (That includes the Venture, since it is just an Offroad with PRO wheels and roof rack).

    >21% SR5

    >20% PRO. (This is also really just an Offroad, but with suspension and cosmetic “upgrades” —and a dramatically upgraded price. But shhh! Don’t tell that to PRO owners! They’re very sensitive! :boink: :D)

    >9% Limited (that includes the Nightshade, which is 99.9% a Limited, just blacked out trim).

The only thing that surprises me is that the SR5 numbers aren’t a bit bigger, like maybe 25% of the total. Offroad was always going to win big here.

I would be curious to know, HONESTLY! How many paid for the Off Road, and have never left the pavement?
