You need to buy or download the Factory Service Manual for your car and year. All wire colors, junctions, etc are in there in the wiring diagrams. Invaluable.

Ebay looks like they chased off most of the guys selling them for a $10 download. Maybe you can find it cheap online or someone here can send you a link to a download online.

Just an FYI, on Ebay, I found 2 sellers for my Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 and for like $6 each, I downloaded the factory service manuals. Each was 100MB and appears to be complete. There is a guy currently selling 2003 and up 4Runner manuals...I'd shoot him a note in Ebay to see if he could put up the 96-2002 manual for you to buy. I bet he has it.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I found a free copy of the FSM, Totota.4Runner.1996.2002.SIL.rar .

I don't recall just where, but a search with Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, or whatever you use should show up where you can get it. It might even have been The Wayback Machine, I just can't recall. Just cut-n-paste the name above, all the way from the leading T to the trailing R, to your search engine, and see what comes out. That's why I left the period a couple spaces away from the R.

Has the wiring diagrams, how to troubleshoot things, how to perform repairs and alignments, the whole nine. I don't think it will allow me to upload it, but I can try, or maybe send it direct to your e-mail. It might be too big to do that, but I'm not sure. It's 24,193 kB.
Too big to upload, I just saw, and they don't allow .rar files, either, so...

    I hope that's a small help...
    Pat☺
