245/75R17?

Looking at a set of toyo open country in this size.. is there any major reason why i shouldnt go with 245 width? Anyone else run this size?

1) Too small than what comes with the 4Runner.

Factory 31.6" vs 31.5" generally with 245/75R17 tire

2) All Toyo tires in that size seem to in Load E which the ride could be hash.




3) To my personal taste tires that are skinnier than factory width of 265mm is ugly or looks not matching to wider look of the 4runner. (Just my personal opinion.)

Here's an example of a 255mm tire that looks not matching to a 4runner imo. So I think 245 would be worse. (Not my pic)

But per experts skinnier tires are far more better functioning than wider tires in many ways.

 

My factory size is 265 65 17 so the 245 75 have taller sidewalls. The toyo i am looking at isnt E rated.

Did you have to do some trimming to make those fit?

 

Nope they fit right in. Slight rubbing on the mudflap at full lock, but that is minimal, I'll have the caster? pushed forward when I install a front leveling lift. The viper cut is just because lol.

 

Well......I like my 235'sx80x17.

 

.1" is so insignificant here that absolutely nobody would be able to tell the difference. You'll get greater variance correcting for air pressure from the manufacturer's measurement method.

The second number is aspect ratio in that it is the sidewall height as a percentage of tread width. So a 245/75R17 means it has a 245mm wide tread and a 245*.75 or about 183mm sidewall. A 265/70R17 is 265mm wide with a 185mm sidewall.

If you don't mind the narrower width, they're fine. That is the size that comes on most Wranglers and Gladiators so it's easy to find take-offs for cheap.

 

Factory 17x7. 5 wheels on a 4Runner should have an offset somewhere between 13-17mm, most likely 15mm.
