I am a new 2023 T4R Limited owner in New Hampshire. I plan to do some mods (minor in comparison to what I have read so far on this forum) and hope to get some good advice from the group. I plan to share my progress as well and appreciate all constructive input.

I have had a "from afar" love for 4Runners for a long time but for a number of reasons I have never been able to own one until now. I am so stoked. I am not an "off-roader" or overland driver but I am an avid hiker, camper, and mountain biker in New England. For me, my mods will focus on supporting my outdoor pursuits as well as just looking to make my T4R look cool.

    Investments so far have been:
    • Full Exterior Ceramic Coating
    • Full interior protection package
    • Marine Oil Undercoat
    • A few internal storage improvements (center console, glove box, and rear cargo)
I went with the limited for all of the "creature comforts" but have some issues with the "look" and plan to address those where affordable.

My list of mods/upgrades being considered is below (thoughts?):
    • Tire/Wheel Upgrade - move to black? move to 17"? Better snow tire for NE?
    • Roof Rack Upgrade
    • Rear Cargo Canvasback protection
    • De-chrome/Partial Blackout to the grill, hatch, and door handles
    • Cargo/Hatch lighting upgrade (key for camping and night mtn biking)

Hey Jay - I feel your pain. I ordered on April 9th only to have it finally arrive on August 14th. Hang in there

I like your list - some things for me to consider as well. Please let me know if there is a post or wherever you post updates - I would love to follow along
    • "in channel window visors" have always interested me but I have never had them on any vehicle - What do you like about them?
    • My hitch is filed with my mtn bike rack - I was thinking of starting another thread just for guys who use their T4R for Mtn Biking as that hobby lends itself to a lot of very specific needs.
    I like the rabbit !

Welcome to the forum, from across the state line. There is a mountain bike thread on here somewhere. I vote for at least getting 17 inch rims for some wintery tires, as I’m not a fan of the limited wheels.

Another big thumbs-up for in-channel visors. As noted, they're handy for preventing heat buildup when parked and taming the wind while getting some ventilation on the go. I especially like them for cracking the windows in the rain. Now my wife wants some on her Outback.

Never a fan of the in channel visors. They compromise the window seal and create air leak noise. I opted for the AVS outside mount. The black on black doesn't stand out at all, and they are formed to match the contours of the doors perfectly.PXL_20230602_211325223~2.jpg

Of course everyone has their own opinion, I just remember always hating the in channel ones I had on my FJ, and didn't want to add 3/16" of hard plastic into a molded felt channel made for my glass :notsure:

I have never tried but heck I am willing to give it a go. I have not committed to a location for the EZ Pass. My brother says if I place it on my window he will disown me. My wife hates to see me throwing it up on the dash every time we go through a toll. She has the plate reader which is always an option but they kinda look like crap IMO

So I spend more and more time thinking about, pondering, and researching what I want to do next. It has become rather obsessive (I am sure no one here can relate ) but my revised thinking now is as follows and I would love any additional feedback or thoughts:
    • Regarding the whole blackout, make the 4R Limited look a bit "meaner" idea; I think the two best things I could do are:
I think that the combination of these two mods can imrove my overall clearance and approach for any off roading plus make the car look much more agressive all without actually doing a lof of suspension work. it certailny woudl address a lof of the chrome and i dont need to do a total black out - I would just likea little less chrome. I am still a bit uncsure of the whole price for these two mods and plan to reasarch this fall becuae while it may seem like a good plan it could be a waste of money if it is too expensive
    • Regarding the while/tire upgrade - that is still on my list but I have decided to wait until either the tires wear out (that could be a while) or I hate them so much I am willing to replace them.
    • Likewise, on the idea of a suspension upgrade - once the X-REAS goes, or I am suddenly wealthy, I will upgrade, until then I will "run what she brung"
    Thoughts?

Finally got the canvas liner for the rear. I still have the plastic all-weather cargo mat for the floor as well.
These are from Canvasback and I am really happy with them, they fit well and installed very securely. You do not want to remove and re-install these a lot the velcro is pretty aggressive and you will damage the carpet but install them once and then if ever do need to remove them just know that you will pull up some of the carpet and will need to trim that up with something like a fabric shaver. I did this mostly because my dog's hair gets into the carpet and is a pain to get out. I could have gotten custom stitching color - wish I had as I think that would have been pretty cool looking.
